It is time to work on loading ramps: Stairs are made of thin balsa stripes: Painting - Faller concrete paint + dilluted Vallejo black wash (very delicate weathering - building is new).
I have to say I literally did the exact same thing to build stairs last week for a model, but that black wash you used really gives it a realistic pop. Very nice!
I returned to the KIBRI factory. After some experiments - Valleyo black wash, AK rusty wash, airbrush with dilluted black paint I decided that old hand paintin will be the best solution. Time consuming not ideal but the best... Result is here: I also found the old photo with company ad on the wall: The wall has been prepared:
Very nice. Hand painting seemed like the only option. How did you avoid the glazing? Amazing. Lesson learned. Paint windows first. It is a very unique building. The sign is going to look great. Jim
My way of detail handpainting: - wear magnifying glasses - concentration of eyes helps to keep the hand steady, - have good lighting over the object you paint - paint from different angles - use thin brush (Revell 10O) - place the elbow on the desk - it makes the hand more steady.
3x7 feet, somewhere around 1x2 meters, hollow core door size, currently, and the most finished one I've ever done.
Your concrete looks so good with the paint and washes you use. Because of your tips in this thread I’ve already been going back and trying some of that on my concrete on my layout. And I’m pleased so far with results. Thanks!
I made some progress with the edge of the wharf. I used this photo as a reference: My initial plan was to make the rail for the portal crane using Plastruct profile but it looked overscaled. Finally I cut Marklin 220mm track into two pieces and tie by tie tried to fill the gaps using Tamiya putty. To get e reasonable result I had to repeat this operation twice: Some sanding and painting with Faller concrete paint. On the right hand side - Plastruct profile: Rail was painted and concrete weathered with Artitect powder to match concrete panels on the edge of wharf: Final result with two tracks for railway:
Apartment house will be one of the buildings on the diorama. My knowledge how it looked liked is limited to some photos of the harbour: The best choice from commercial offer is corner apartment house from Faller 282782: https://www.faller.de/de/de/Produkt...Die-Stadt-das-Dorf/Stadteckhaus-sid16761.html The building during construction: I decided to have tha lights inside. They will be changing ON/OFF in different parts of the building. To achive this I have to make internal construction with "light boxes": Two set of boxes must be placed inside. They create nine separate light zones.
Been following your build thread since then beginning and have really enjoyed your progress. Great job. I did the same as you with lights in my buildings divided into sections and made a six channel timer out of RC car gears, roller switches, Masonite cams and a 1/15 rpm motor. The timer was made from scrap pieces of Masonite and some all thread. If I remember right the time before it repeats is about 20 minutes. Each cam was cut to a different pattern so the switches trigger a different length of time and is powered with a wall wart. Edit: corrected rmp amount. Joe
My light are based on electronic module I bought on Polish e-bay (approximately 35USD) with 15 LEDS and connectors. Leds light up randomly. I follow up with construction of apartament house. I did not liked Fallers front facade's colour as well as silver ornaments not fitting the serrounding. I decided to add depth to it by constructing horizontal cornices (Plastruct profile): The whole building after painting: Pigeons visit the roof quite often: The side walls were not renovated for many years:
That’s a fantastic build and yes...the depth you added made it look better. But I really like what you did with the roof...it not only looks the part but you “weathered” it and that made me chuckle cause you must have a lot of pigeons!
