You are welcome Brad. Figured I would take a chance on them. At this point, I am very happy I did. Probably won't be the only trailer I get from them.
And I got more in the works. One thing I will caution you on with that trailer. Take your time separating it from the base, I have broken mudflaps and fenders being too heavy handed with the nippers.
Thanks for the heads up on that sir. BTW, grain trailers and modern 53ft flatbed trailers would be cool.
On the work bench in the garage just outside the train room door I am making a couple more throttle holders for the layout. The one on the left is one of the 4 that I made more than a year ago. With the layout being expanded since then and another throttle on the way it was time to add 2 more. When I made the first 4 I posted on my blog about how I made them. https://palisadecanyonrr.blogspot.com/2018/12/home-made-throttle-holders.html
Your throttle holder looks fantastic and easy to build looking at your blog. Thank you for posting!!! . Joe
Yes, these make a fun and easy little project using scraps left over from bench work or other projects. It could easily be adapted to other brands of throttles as well. The primary tools I used was my table saw to cut the parts nice and square and then after everything is glued together I used my belt sander to clean them up.
Nice work Carl! today’s work bench was cracking the old glue to get the Roofs of the Pola Station that arrived yesterday so I could paint them and gain access to the interior to make floors, install lighting, etc. Work in progress. before: after: Now it looks like it should be in SoCal. Welcome to the (fictional) town of San Medina!
Some update shots. Much more to do, especially the wheels/tires................................. Thanks for looking and as always " have fun ", Carl
I have tiny Micro Scale numbers I need to apply to LL DL109 number boards (about .035"). How do I cut them from the sheet ??? No. 11 Xacto is far too big. Like skinning a mosquito with a machete !!! (i.e. John Cleese)
Onizukachan, LOVE that station !!! I would not rest 'til I made the clocks functional. That would drive me NUTS !!!
Lacking decal scissors get a pack of single edge razor blades and use a new blade. Single edge razor blades are sharper than an Exacto blade.
Last weekend, I started working on my Royale Models bulk dry goods trailer by removing it from the spurs and painting it. Yesterday, I was able to finish it up. There are not a lot of parts to assemble which was nice. Here I added the fill hatches to the top of the trailer. Then I painted the mud flaps black. Even though Brad waned me, I managed to break one but it went back on easily. Next was to add the wheels. These were a tight fit but not too hard to put on. Last was the tail lights. Discovered I am out of amber paint so no accent lights for now. (Sorry, not a great shot) And here she is ready to take on her first load.
I have several vehicle builds going on right now that cover several different types of material. First is this fuel truck with an International cab. It is a 3D printed model that was sent to me as a promotional item back before 3D printing was all that common. It's all one piece so I am painting it by hand. It will be part of the diesel distributor on my layout and I am working on some Chevron decals for it. Here is another fuel truck. Like a lot of us I have a box full of unfinished cast resin kits. The back end of this one is going to be combined with the cab of an Athearn C cab tractor. The 1954 Mack cab would be a little old for my layouts era but the C cabs were still around. This truck will also be used at the diesel fuel distributor. Next I pulled out a Lineside Models kit and am planning to make this a Western Pacific MoW truck. In the past I've had a few wheels fall off of cast resin vehicles so I am going to try some axles for this model. I have some MoW truck decals from nscalekits.com I can use on this one. And last is this Showcase Miniatures kit. I started this awhile back but it's now nearing completion. I have some decals on order for this one.
Brad, I like your idea for the WP maintenance truck. May I ask where you are getting the decals for it? Also do you have any reference info for it and other WP vehicles? I picked up some Broncos from Rasputen that I painted white and I'm having a hard time finding WP logos that are small enough.
Next thing to send some time on my work bench is this kit. Have already separated the big parts from the spurs and dome some clean up and test fits. Hope to get a warm enough afternoon to at least get a base coat of paint on it.
I have been making a stock yard for the Boston Mountains Sub Division layout. It is about 4.5x8.5 inches measurements and will have four pens. So far there's four fences and two gates that are finished. I ran out of the horizontal boards and will try to get more tomorrow if Top Shelf Hobbies in Owasso is open, don't know if the city made them close. The stock yard is interchangable with a oil depot to add variety for operations and are built on identical bases. I only have two large tanks for the oil depot but plan to add more tanks, piping, warehouse type of building and a loading platform. Most of the items for both industries will be scratch built. Photos for both can be found on the Boston Mountains Sub Division build thread Joe
