Just won/ordered an Rio Grande SD40T-2, my first n-scale engine about 35 years. Also a Trainworx Woodpacker 50' waffle box car. Those aren't even available in HO. One thing I'm having trouble finding is a Trainworx City Market 40' trailer. Anyone know where I can find one?
Back in 1999, I purchased the Digitrax Empire Builder starter set which included a DB150 command station and a DT100 throttle. When I started building bedroom sized home layout, I had planned on having operating sessions with two to three operators, so I purchased a second DT100 throttle. Nineteen years later and the Left Hand Knobs on both DT100 are beginning to let me down, the response has become very erratic. It's been time for a new throttle for a few years now. Just a few weeks ago I was at the Altoona N scale show and I just couldn't pass up the price on a brand new DT500 throttle. As for that bedroom sized home layout, it became a part of history in 2005 when I had to move. Since I'm now an apartment dweller with a HCD layout, my new DT500 and UT4 throttles fulfill my current throttle needs.
The purple and white truck showed up with my 3 new Masterpiece Modules modules. I got a branch line, a single and a triple. This goes with my 2 doubles and a couple of U-turn modules I already have.
I received this wood laser kit a few days ago and had fun building and modifying it to suite me. Still needs tweaking before it’s layout ready. It’s for my fledgling Nn3 mini layout.
Nice work Jim, it's definitely a early 1900's building. Will fit in well on your layout. Looking forward to seeing more of your layout progress, it's been fun watching your work. Joe
Thanks, gentlemen. I’m so used to HO scale that N scale is quite challenging in some ways. Thank goodness for reading glasses! I don’t know how Z scale folks manage the fine work I’ve seen on here.
I just received my first brass steam locomotive. It's a bit of a mutt, but so far I'm quite happy with it: A Key (Samhongsa) New York Central L-4B 4-8-2 Mohawk matched with a Pecos River (Goldrich) S-2B Niagara tender. I'm not sure why these were matched together, since I can't find any evidence the NYC Mohawks ever used this type of tender. The Niagaras and Hudsons did. In any case, I'm not likely to find a matching tender and it will be a long while before I ever get good enough to make my own brass tender, so it stays. If a NYC rivet counter gives me grief I'll say NYC was playing musical tenders with a shopped Niagara, as real world railroads often did. The loco came with the removable smoke deflectors, but not the traction-tire-less drivers. There is some iffy contact between the loco and tender due to the "stiff wire" contact system - on my Unitrak test loop the loco will stall entering curves if run counter-clockwise. Aside from that, this loco runs beautifully! It even runs on 12" radius curves with no problem. The Spookshow review says its supposed to have a minimum 15" radius. I wonder if I can fit Loksound into it...
I bought a VHS tape of Frisco steam locomotives and went to the flea market last Sunday to buy a VHS player for $15. Most of our movies are DVD but still have several VHS. Haven't been able to watch the Frisco tape, maybe later tonight. Is it later yet. LOL Joe
Due in, early next week, I’ve got 2 sets of the Micro Trains Titan booster rocket sets coming. Purchased online earlier today! At less than $80/set!
Bought me a 2019 Kia Niro Hybrid. Got 58MPG going to and from Altoona. Not too shabby considering I had to go up and over a mountain ridge line going as well as returning. I smile every time I pass a gas station because I'm pocketing what I save on gas for more trains.
It arrived today, just in time to be unwrapped, opened, and put away for the next few months. We just found out we have to be moved by end of October (our landlords are gifting this house to their daughter). It’s really gorgeous, but things are absolutely up in the air like a plastic grocery sack in a haboob.
Well the positive is that I only had 4ft of double mainline finished, so I can pack the raw modules up and not damage anything maps long as I put something over the working switchstand. I’m def not selling the rolling stock or locos, just putting having any sort of layout (or modules) permanently on hold for the next couple of years until we buy a house of our own. Thank goodness for unitrack and tomix track, I don’t need a layout to run one on a table or two if I ever wanted to. I’m getting a seriously loaded 2015 f31 Msport with the active suspension later this week, since my also seriously loaded (I have factory TV!) 2004 e46 Touring needs to be taken off the road for a while before I hand it down to my son... so all my hobby money is about to be redirected to that anyway. In a way it makes it easier to put away the trains. For now. And if I hadn’t promised to not spend anymore after the Shinkansen, I’d buy a couple of these to store my trains in... https://www.amazon.co.jp/gp/product/B01N2W4DNZ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
