Noodle! Unit hung around on NS properties in Dayton, OH a while back and appeared to make switching moves 'tween Moraine & Findlay yards as well as consists.
I clicked "like" but I cant say this is a good thing. It seems as this old soldier is being taken to meet his doom, but pride will not allow him to be out of step, and in cadence. Here is to a job well done. Against all hope maybe a new beginning.. There is no telling how many times this unit paid for itself, nor the crews it brought safely home, if it could talk it would tell you the harrowing grade crossing near misses, all the kids and others that waved to the crews. In tow, with appliances missing is never a good thing. Thanks for the image and a great view of the innards of one of the most successful locomotives that has ever rode the rails.
Apparently, the 5621 spent about a decade in Calgary, where it was used for crew training - so add those stories to the tales this unit could tell. http://www.mountainrailway.com/Roster Archive/CP 5600/CP 5621.htm A photo of 5621 very early in its career from back in 1973: http://www.mountainrailway.com/Roster Archive/CP 5600/CP 5621-4.jpg
An alternative view. I suspect that most of us become used to relatively "pristine" locos and even seek out those "factory fresh" paint jobs. Or, perhaps we see a heavily weathered unit as "merely a flesh wound"! I see something akin to a Da Vinci anatomical rendering, both scientific AND artistic. This unit may prove the salvation of others either in donated parts or as "practice" for the real deal. C'mon, to everything, there is a season.
Old WC units from my first digi cam, an ANCIENT Fuji MX700, circa mid 90's. I still have the camera and if the battery would hold a charge it prolly works. Technology!
Rolling pipe line. Empty crude oil train, having dropped off its load at some refinery is heading back from where it came to get more.
As a kid grew up with Grandfathers working the Wood River Refineries, yards were once full of the old small tank cars by Union Tank of East Alton. Great uncles worked those yards shuttling those tanks in and out of the refineries. Loads of memories there.

And on the other hand, some may end up in nice retirement homes like a railway museum... last year Exporail had a donation from CP of an SD40-2 that was deemed unserviceable. Someone had the wonderful idea of sending it to us rather than the scrapper. I wish I had gifts like that... but on the other hand, where the bleep do I put an SD40-2???
