Which cam is the best for 4K Model Train Videos? I've a smartphone and a EOS 5DIV, but i think a cam corder or similar is more recommendable. The purpose is for YouTube and for home cinema. Thomas
I use, or am temporarily stuck with, a Samsung video cam corder. I am dismayed at the superior quality of images and videos done by smartphones. Even my flip phone takes better images, but is not compatible for downloads with the Windows on my computer.
For on-board "cab rides" I use a 808 "keychain" camera mounted either on a flatcar with shims to raise it to "cab-level", or on top of a passenger car for a "dome-car view". For external shots I use a Canon S95 point-and-shoot set down on the layout for the desired "eye-level" shots.
There are certainly a lot of inexpensive action cams in the marketplace these days. I bought these a couple years ago from Aldi for cycling. Recently, I added a 4K of similar design. All retailed for about $65 USD and can be found even cheaper. Fixed focus and varied fields of view so check individual cam specs.
