I like the old barns, too! Just don't make enough time to work on them or explore them! Here's a couple more from yesterday morning on mt way ro Miles City. These are photos just west of Fallon where a coal empty was in the siding waiting on a coal load and a grain to go by. The empty blew by us at the fairgrounds a few hours later.

A camera just doesn't do it justice, tho! I love getting atop a rise and seeing the far hills and all in between.

We must be vaguely related. Ha ha ha. I feel the same way, when I see the same type of view. (y)

The lack of these BIG vistas and HUGE open spaces were sorely missed the year I spent in PA. I did learn what "not being able to see the forest for the trees " meant!

While heading to a jobsite, I saw this set on the 21st. Then I noticed that the CN was a covered wagon. PIC_0110.JPG PIC_0112.JPG PIC_0117.JPG

I ain't positive, but I believe that is one of the SD-50 covered wagons?

In other spotting, got this video catch of the local running up to the pipeyard and tank farm,

And some switching in the yard,

As an easterner, I find myself amazed at these photos. The sparseness in stunning and I want so much to travel there someday. Yep, we have trees, trees and more trees here, north and south for countless miles.

A few years ago our neighbors lost a tall pine tree to lightning. They phoned their insurer to ask about coverage for removal costs. The insurer was located in a distant major city and they offered to replace the tree. Our neighbor said to them, "You don't understand. The tree is 100' tall. We have 20 more in the yard and there are a million of them all over the region. We don't want it replaced." The insurer was aghast, having never heard of such.

Power on an empty coal train and an oil train on the west end. Thought it was interesting due to new GE and EMD poer with a classic 70MAC PIC_0886.JPG PIC_0887.JPG PIC_0890.JPG

A Tier-4 unit leading. If I'm not mistaken, the 'tent' shaped radiators is the dead giveaway.

Yup, the big radiators makes for a good ID.

Saw this goofy consist on the last day of July as I headed north to work on a horse barn,

This has me wondering. Perhaps a lead unit failed, leaving this consist?

My guess is that the set was set up by the roundhouse improperly. The super elevator is in the background at the beginning of the video, and the cars are dropped off when received by the elevator and then the power goes back to the roundhouse. They are supposed to set up the units correctly before setting them out for the road crews. Communication can get difficult sometimes.
