Sometimes there's a train product you really want and somehow you just miss out on it, or you break the one you have and need to get a new one, but... When I was a kid my dad got me this cool Kibri kit. To be honest it was just a tad over my skill level and I never completed it. Id did play with it a lot and even cut the railings down to make it into an N scale model when I got N scale trains. I've since been able to locate copies of all the kits I had as a kid and will have them on my new layout. But this one eludes me. I can find it already built, but I want to do it right and paint everything and weather it up. I have seen it appear from time to time at ridiculous prices. I suppose I will never get to do this kit again, but darned if I don't obsess a little bit over it. What did you miss out on many years ago that you can't find anymore?

Usually, though, if you look long enough, particularly on eBay, these days, you will eventually find what you're looking for. I was able to get all the structures and locos/cars my late brother had on his HO scale layout in the early to mid sixties. Paid a bit for some of them, yes, but that's the way it goes. Doug
There's a hobby/collector's shop in Saluda, NC (in the SOU depot!) called Dad's Cats (as in die cast Caterpillar equipment). He has some old N Scale dating from the late '70s and early '80s for sale. I got my nice Pacific (see avatar) when my Granddad retired from the Italian Railways, but unfortunately missed the Mikado.... Even the standard 746 would have been OK. Now the price is so outrageous that simply I can't afford it. And that's MY Pacific
Ah, a "locomotiva a vapore"! One of the very few Italian phrases I know as a result of getting a Rivarossi 50th anniversary reference book back in the nineties. Doug
I see those on auction and end up thinking the same thing. Sure I want one, but I don't want it to be a shelf queen, I'll run the wheels off of it. And, NO, I will not pay collector prices on things. I have given up on getting any italian steam locos.

Ehi, Doug, I was on the joking side... saw your website... Holy Cow!, You are an estimator for real! I have kind of twenty old Rivarossi locomotives (in HO by the way) and all but very few run perfectly well, even after years of sitting in a box, or after thousands of scale miles.... Of course you do not ask 1mph switching movies to them, but they are sturdy and reliable, even my kids can handle them without me fearing for damaging some "rivet counter" detail (that you anyway can not see when these are moving on a layout).
Certain phrases just sound so neat in Italian and that's one of them. One of my friends, who speaks fairly fluent Italian, laughs when I brag about being able to speak Italian and invariably blurt out, "Locomotiva a vapore!" Rivarossi was a great company, even if they did cheap out on the N scale commutator form in the can motors. I have a few HO Rivarossis too. They all run smooth. Some can crawl, others, not so much. Guys, I finally got it! A nice 746, from the latest production with the motor in the tender, posted as brand new on the french ebay: therefore got her for 120 euros as I was the only one bidder (no italians saw that then!). Good birthday present. So now I got these old nice RR steamers, two 940 2-8-2T one 740 2-8-0 one 741 2-8-0 with the Franco Crosti boiler (go and check this very unusual one) the 691 Pacific and then the 746 mikado total of SIX, more than enough for my layout! I was looking since forever, so maybe TB gave me good luck!

I think the one thing I missed out on was the Acela. I have one car from it but never got the rest of the set. I know it is still on EBay and at some stores, but I have so many other projects and more pressing train matters that it probably won’t happen.
