I'm hoping someone may be able to assist. I'm working on a boxcar project and I need to reposition the door stops, if that is even the correct terminology. basically the bits bolted on the car sides that stop the doors sliding too far back. I doubt I will be able to salvage the molded on set that I need to cut off so am looking for a source for some new ones. I've searched on Walthers site but nothing comes up under any supplier so am I getting the terminology wrong or can some point me to a supplier/source. I have searched the site but again no joy. If they are the lower track stops, just chisel them off and make new ones out of sheet styrene and glue them where you need them.
Thanks for the advice but they aren't at the end of the tracks, they are up the sides. I've highlighted the parts I mean, green rings, on the attached picture
I believe Plastruct makes a C channel shape in styrene could get a piece and fabricate what you need. They make some pretty small sections.
I can recall those we put on new cars, when I worked at PC&F. They had a thick rubber facing to cushion impact of doors slammed open. It was like the consistency and thickness of a car tire tread.
Good thinking Batman! I hadn't thought of that... I envisioned having to try and make it piece by piece out of flat section.
Interesting. I presume the rubber ended up body colour after the paintshop got there hands on it? or did it stay black?
Looking closely at the stops, the ones on the other end of the car have black faces. When compared to the ones on the close end, the edges of the bumper pads are UP yellow. I would guess they are indeed painted and the paint comes off the faces with use. So it depends on how much use you want to show on your model. Be sure to post pictures of it when you have it completed. DB
That's a good idea, Dale. I was going to suggest 3D printing, but the thin sections could create a problem with minimum wall thicknesses required by the process.
You could also saw them off with a flush-cutting modeler's saw. This is what i do when i want precise cuts where the cut parts need to be salvaged.
