What I know of the caboose is that they painted it here at the roundhouse to match the SD-60M 1991. It has been in captive service here ever since and is used regularly in local service up to the pipeyard, oil tank farm and chemical plant. The crew stands on the end during their backing move to be the eyes and ears for the street crossings. That has to be cold in the bitter winter wind!

Nice selections and nice work again, guys. Kurt, for one who knows little about diesels, those two units in your shot look like they are somewhat the same vintage. Why is one numbered with the three digit 128 and the other with 3150. There must be a reason, right?

Well, the 128 is a former Santa Fe "Super Fleet" GP60M unit that was painted in the Warbonnet Scheme when new, and used on the Transcon on the hottest intermodels, but now is just used on alot of local runs. I'm not sure, but I think it's the original number it's always had. Now the GP25 behind it is an odd unit that I need to research more, as I've never heard of one nor seen one till this day!! A unit designation that something BNSF has conjured up for a rebuild, maybe?o_O

A model designation one number away from a standard EMD model usually is a locomotive modified from that standard model. I know the Milwaukee Road had some SD9's they modified and called them SD10's.

At least I'm pretty sure that was the situation. Somebody can give me 50 lashes and correct me if I'm wrong. :D
