Had this on 8mm video tape for years (obviously). Recent messages here got me interested in digitizing it and here it is! And, yes, that is me taking pictures at trackside (still haven't digitized them, they are 35mm film).

My heart rate increases with just videos of those machines. Terrific!

I really enjoyed watching the video of this old war horse pulling a long double stack train. It was really working hard and doing the job, very impressive.

:love::love: Amazing how the sound of a steam whistle carries, seemingly for such great distances.

Love that video, but I just can't get my head around a steam locomotive blowing a steamboat whistle. I grew up hearing "real" steam whistles quilled echoing off the New England mountains. Not many steamboats up theah, doncha know. ;)

John, great video. How did you digitize it? I need to find some way to copy my VHS stuff other than projecting it and filming it with a Bloggie.

I used Easier CAP (https://www.amazon.com/Capture-Grabber-Recorder-Adapter-Converter/dp/B00STDO9PM) but there are a few others that look identical. It is connected to USB port on your computer and then I used NCH VideoPad Video Editor (free trial version) to capture the video. btw - if you need a USB extension, don't use the one included according to some comments I read of others having problems with the chintzy one included. There are other video editors available either free or at low cost. See the thread in the Photography forum.
