If only... I remember the MILW; Bipolars, Boxcabs, catenary, Tacoma substation with it's illuminated sign, and, and..... *Sigh* Logging steam, NP steam and, and.... Life back then, in the PNW, was so nice and uncomplicated!
My last trip from North Bend to Shoreline, before moving was a real eye opener. What had once been a quick zip in, I-90/I-405/and across the north end of Lake Washington, required two hours and forty five minutes one way. I was stunned. But friends in town who had kept asking me why I did not drop in more often no longer wondered as to why!!!
Yup, I pretty much stick to the South Sound area and check out the old Milwaukee haunts and the local railroads. Surprisingly, it only takes 15-20 minutes to get to Tacoma, versus hours to Bellevue and the Eastside, which is closer!! Better railroad action down south anyways!
