CSX recently upped the reward to $25,000. I hope it'll bring someone forward who can help nail the perp(s).
Exactly. It involves two phases, both illegal actions. The first is when a party decides they want to tag (vandalize). They then deliberately access the victim artifact- Which requires trespass. My understanding is that since it is deliberate, it is then criminal trespass. The second part is the vandalism itself. I need to check again with a certain RR person, as to the cost for painting (as an example) a fifty foot box car, but the vandalism amounts to destroying many thousands of dollars in the car's paint job. Not to mention when they cover up legally (Federal Law) required stencils and other identifications..... Let's make this simple- If you do not own it, or have properly granted (such as written) permission, then you have committed a crime. You have not "expressed" yourself, or created "art". Nothing you can say excuses your actions.
OK, which is it? Third rail or catenary? This is in Bordeaux, France. This is the strip that goes down the middle of the rails and makes contact with shoes extended down from the tram cars. I took me a while but I figured it out. I just looked it up online and checked out my conclusions and I was right on.
The above was at the station where the trams were converted from overhead to third rail. The trams run on overhead in the suburbs and convert to third rail in the down town area. Here the third rail ends. Lowering the pantograph where the third rail takes over.
What would stop someone from touching it and electrocuting themselves? If they step on it, wouldn't it complete a circuit?
The third rail is not energized until the tram is over it. It is divided into short sections that are activated by a radio signal only when the cars are directly on top of them. I was brave and stood with one foot on each just to prove my theory when I was there.
This past January I managed to see a few Ferromex trains in Zacatecas, Zacatecas. AC400 4521 is starting to look rough leading a s/b towards Mexico City.
It still is called that, it's just that (opinions aside) it has become part of the "landscape" in the last few decades at least (Of course, go back a bit and think of Kilroy, so...)
Kilroy never covered half or more of a freight car's (or building's) sides with squiggly lines that claim to be letters and words (sometimes obscene stuff). He just said he was there, discreetly, and usually not with a rattle can of paint. The problem are those who think better of themselves and pontificate about young people and alleged artistic expression, who consider that defacing public and private property is considered "art", and letting the youngsters break the law in that manner is somehow helping them develop their expressive abilities... or some such garbage. Basically, if someone spray-paints squiggly lines on the side of my home, that's OK and it should be tolerated. Meanwhile, it costs me mucho dinero to remove their artistic expressions, something I could spend on something way more pleasant (like on model trains).
Saw Longmont local in action, after I grabbed a bite to eat! Locomotive 551, a GE B40-8W, smoking a bit! Not sure, but I think white smoke is a problem? Lead unit 521, also a GE B40-8W, was clean. BNSF 5200, a GE C44-9W, in DPU service. Missed head end! Train stopped, cars rolled back, taking out slack. This car continued rolling down to proper track and coupling to other cars. Was an interesting move to see.
Had a job in Miles City building a handi-cap ramp on Friday. So, spent time on the way haome looking for trains after hearing them all day. Caught this oil train with 5 units on it flying by me just west of Blatchford siding and these wrecked hoppers stacked up at that siding. I didn't hear about this derailment, but it took out a few cars.
Looks like the aftermath of an incident from about a month ago as covered in this news report: http://www.ktvq.com/story/36016877/man-injured-train-derailed-when-grain-truck-struck

Are these two steamers actually from their named companies? I had no idea an SS&S loco might still exist.
