An old slide from before I had a digital camera. I keep revisiting it trying to pull more details out of it without too much color distortion. I would like to highlight the MoPac switcher in the background a little more. The shadows under the bridge still look too "green" but the best I can manage.

AA Pennant similar to the Wabash Flag, the AA was conveyed to the DT&I as part of the N&W/NKP/Wabash Merger. Well, here are some of my GP30s. Not pictured are the 3010 and 3011, but, with them I have 14 GP30s. The Grande had 28. Is half enough for a model roster?
That is far more representation than the usual model RR roster. I get a slight hint that you might like this carbody style.....
Quite an impressive roster. Here is my only experience with a Rio Grande GP30 in the wild, 1989, east of Grand Junction.
Been busy with work and family issues lately, but in the past few weeks have made progress with gcav17's Milw. Baltic converson. Added PB springy wipers to the tender pickups, Econami sound chip and am now getting paint on it. There was a lot of body work to do to the casting.
Going to post a video instead of a photo. Here is a trio pf old Atlas Alco RS units pulling the grade at the model Railroad club in Livingston, MT. These old original Atlas units are some really good pulling units. Directly behind the locomotives is the clubs track cleaning car that is one very heavy car. Two units were able to pull the grade wit it but to make things easier, I put a third locomotive on. These are DC locomotives. I did pick up one Atlas RS-1 in DCC mainly to run at the club but am I disappointed with it. It can only handle around 8 cars on the same grade.
Can the RS1 shell be swapped to other RS2 or RS3 units, with needing major changes to fuel tanks, etc, etc?
I imagine that they can but I mainly got the DCC RS-1 to run at the club because the club is Digitrax DCC. The DCC unit is decorated for the Northern Pacific. Changing the shells really don't make any difference as the DCC version is a real wimp on the grades.
It's a matter of the weight I think. To make room for the DCC board and the speaker, the size of the weight most likely had to been reduced.
Atlas has never made a DCC ready frame for an RS-1. The one you have would have had to be modified or use a TCS split decoder. The frame is extremely light as shipped and has never been one of Atlas's best runners or pullers. The RS-1 is narrower than an RS-3, so a chassis swap would be a large undertaking. Best suggestion I have is get another and run them in pairs. Don
I was busy this weekend so did not get back here, but really enjoyed everything posted. Russell's photo is good enough to show a really nice industrial scene and Rick's boxcars were excellent too. Really like to see local roads like those. Wolf's FM switcher is nicely workworn without looking decrepit, Jim's photo is outstanding, and Paul has more GP30's than I've ever seen in one place. The Milwaukee road Baltic is coming along nicely, too. Can't wait to see the finished engine. Very nice, gentlemen.
This Atlas DCC locomotive come equipped with ESU LokSound. I will have to admit that I am a total DCC dummy. On my home layout, I really have no use for DCC as my layout was built mainly for switching and being a lone operator, running more than one locomotive never happens except as a helper on grades. Here the the DCC locomotive operating on my home layout on DC. I can't see spending the money to get another locomotive that will mainly be run at the club. I'll just pull shorter trains.
I am always impressed by your layout, montanan! The fact that it includes the NP is only a small part of that! It looks as though it were a club layout given the size and detail presented.
John - I appreciate your comments about the layout. I grew up with relatives working on both the Northern Pacific and the Milwaukee Road. Nothing like riding the rails in the 50's and early 60's. I think the North Coast Limited was my favorite of the two railroads from Montana to Chicago. I really didn't have enough room to do justice to even part of a subdivision of the NP or MILW so I figured that if I could at least connect with them, having their power show up on my layout would be nice. Here's another quick video taken last weekend. There were quite a few visitors to the layout that weekend and someone had thrown a switch and sent me on the wrong main line right into a head on situation. The first train stopped just before a crossover so I could move to another track, but in being stopped, other trains started backing up behind the first. I heard someone shout "hurry up with that train" so I picked it up a bit, faster than I would normally operate.
