I am starting a new thread on my layout since Photobucket disabled all the links to the photos in the previous thread. These are WIP pictures as of today. I'll update this thread as I make progress. WIP July 15, 2017-1.jpg WIP July 15, 2017-2.jpg WIP July 15, 2017.jpg

Looking good. I've always liked looking at 3 rail O scale layouts. Nice and solid.

What I always liked about three rail, was how easily I could reconfigure.

Three rail O started out as toy trains for boys to play with. The track is rugged and easily reconfigured for maximum play value.

I've modified the trackplan a few times since I started this layout in January. Even when I was in HO and N I changed track after running trains finding that what looked good on paper wasn't always the best in reality.

Been there, done that! Paper plans just do not work out, far more than some folks realize.

I think that's one of the lessons you can only learn by experience.

What is the train set in picture above? It has me thinking of one the Rock Island owned?

It's a NYC Aerotrain. I believe it also ran on the Rock Island for a while. It's made by MTH Railking and a fun train, one of my favorites.

My eyes were not fooling me. It is the train I had been thinking about. :)

In Rock island possession, they ran Chicago commuter service. I'm assuming they ran on the tracks currently called the Metra Rock Island Line. Since Metra is push-pull with the Nippon Sharyo gallery cars, how was the Aerotrain turned around at the terminus stations? (And for that matter, how does Amtrak currently do it?)

The Aerotrain was in use between 1956-1966 so I would guess that they still had turntables.

For a design dedicated train set such as the Aerotrain was, most likely it was wyed.

Hmmm. Maybe we should cue up the "Mission Impossible" theme, and tape sequence? :)
