How do you store/display delicate locos, not on the layout

I'm looking for how you actually do it, not how I should
I'm referring to units that don't come in a bachmannesque, wrap around case, where you can easily protect the loco.

I'm speaking about MRC/MP, ConCor, The Kato Mike, with the plastic stabilizer. Atlas diesel, etc. any loco, where jamming it into the box, needs to be balanced against dust accumulation, if you leave it in a display shelf.

I was putting away a MTL/ MP Christmas set Pacific, last night (runs great btw) and I think I decided, I'm going with display shelves, for as many locos as possible. The shelves have sliding doors, so I will keep the doors shut and periodically dust. But I'm done jamming.

I will find or build a box foam filled to place them in. And I have these plastic wheeled carts with Draws that I store all of my moving pieces that aren't in use
Matter of fact I have one of my Con Cor U50 in a made up foam cut out around the Loco now

I've got three wall mounted cabinets very similar to this one on Amazon. I have two upstairs next to my switching layout, and one in the basement next to my small roundy-round. I like them a lot.

I have a building that has three tracks into the interior. The delicate machines go sleep in there when they are not being used.

 

My brother in laws father made me these (at my sister in laws request) for Christmas and my 50th!

Interesting question, I've only got 18 locos so I guess I've not run out of turntable and engine house space yet to think about that-It is a great thought. Thanks for sharing even though I didn't offer solution.

 

Those Amazon cases look really nice! That said, I've never really felt compelled to display my trains, so those that aren't on the layout are always in their jewel cases in tote pans.

 

I've found that by having them in view on the wall, I tend to rotate rolling stock and locos more often. That helps because my layouts are so small.

I also use one shelf sort of like a RIP track. Any car with issues goes there and because I still see it often and things get fixed faster. Otherwise I would just put it away and forget about it.

 

Right one is N Scale. Left is HO. Both have railroad logos.

 

I keep eyeing this case by Ikea. It's cheaper than most wood and glass shevles on the market today. just noticed the price went down too.
