Post UP approves ethanol plant site...

Iowa Ethanol Plants Get Rail Approval, Tax Benfits
SIOUX CITY, IA -- Union Pacific Railroad has approved the proposed site for a 100-million-gallon ethanol plant just one mile north of Blencoe, Iowa, the plant backers said Friday.
Securing rail access for the Midwest Ethanol Producers Inc. plant was key to moving the $160 million project forward. With the ethanol industry growing at a dizzying pace, Omaha-based Union Pacific has formalizied an evaluation process that all new service locations must complete before the railroad will commit to providing service.
O'Neill, Nebraska-based Midwest Ethanol Producers Inc. expects construction to begin in early 2007 on the Blencoe plant, which will employ about 45 people. If all goes well, ethanol production will start in March 2008. The proposed Monona County plant expects to consume about 37 million bushels of corn annually, producing some 100 million gallons of ethanol each year, as well as 256,000 tons of dry distiller's grain, a high-protein livestock feed. Midwest Ethanol is among a growing list of companies developing corn-based ethanol plants in Siouxland. The Iowa Economic Development Board on Thursday approved Enterprise Zone tax benefits for a VeraSun plant planned for near Hartley, Iowa. The proposed $123 million plant in O'Brien County would create 51 new jobs and produce 110 million gallons of ethanol. - Dave Dreeszen, The Sioux City Journal
