Hi Folks,
After 5+ years and the founding of the Tri-State New York Z-Scalers, I am moving on. My 4 1/2 year old has no real interest (except that I have the interest) and I'm losing interest as well. My job has gotten very intense (which is good in this economy) and time is not my friend. Anyway, I'm attaching a list. There are FR, Robert Ray, Z-Thek, Micro-Trains, Marklin and more. There is also (not listed) buildings, lots of unopened Micro-Trains track (modular) and also a Marklin (old) Turntable and lots of built and painted Micro Structures buildings, Gray Bros. vehicles and all sorts of odds and ends...oh and Marklin Track... I want to sell it in one lot if I can rather than piece it all out. Thanks for looking, Michael miked_r@yahoo.com Last edited by Michael R, New York; March 2nd, 2010 at 12:52 PM. We are sorry to see you go, but this happens a lot, especially when the people have young children with other interests. When you are an empty nester like me, and have more time, you will probably get back into trains Michael.

Coming from a Dad with two 10 year old boys...
While your interest and time has waned and your child is a little young to really appreciate these things I would suggest you think about hanging on to at least a small part of your collection-even if you put it in a box and don't think about it for a couple years. I wondered at times what interest my boys would end up having but I kept buying them a high quality car each Christmas and then a few years ago letting them pick out a locomotive. I let them run them but I handled and stored them. Early on there wasn't a whole lot of interest compared to all the other toys. With my work and other interests I do not always have the time to devote to trains so we mostly ran them only in the winter months. I thought sometimes if it was really worth keeping all my stuff and considered selling it. But now the kids are nuts about trains and they highly value the items they have gotten over the years. They love talking about THEIR trains and after most other Christmas gifts over the years have long since made their way to the landfill and are forgotten the trains are becoming more valued by them and kindling a deeper interest about real trains. And I count it a great thing when a kid has a real interest in real stuff as opposed to all the other stuff out there trying to grab their attention. Plus its a thing that an adult and kid can share together and both enjoy. I know my boys and I do. And they love to go through my old stuff-a lot of it not worth much anymore to me practically but to them its special, sort of like looking at old pictures. A link to the past. Anyway, all I am saying is from my experience you may find reward down the road, even if you need to take a break now, by saving a piece for you and your kid later. |

hey mike
from one long islander to another sad to hear you leaving the hobby but DO NOT sell your stuff!!! Hang onto it for a while then decide if you want out of the hobby!!! I do not have a layout yet so i get bummed out from time to time also. I have two girls 6 and 2 and they could care less about trains,so they can not be my deciding factor for a hobby mark in mastic ![]() Mark C. |

I've been thinking about this for 2 years and over the last 3 major shows and it is the right move for me. I have a layout ready to go if you are interested :-) Michael |

If you're coming to the Amherst Show in West Springfield, MA, I'll be there
If you want to see some of what I have (all the locomotives & rolling stock), I'll be at the Tri-State Z Scaler's layout with my module.
Thanks! Michael |

I've decided to lower the start price to $6999.99 and put it on eBay:
Z Scale Collection for Sale-Mostly Northeast - eBay (item 200435793435 end time Feb-13-10 21:35:50 PST) I'll pull it if there is interest here and I will drive it up to 800 miles. Michael Last edited by Michael R, New York; February 4th, 2010 at 08:19 PM. |
