Mystery Caboose Solved.

Tags caboose

About three years back, my mom spotted a caboose on a flatbed truck near Auburn on I-80. Of course her not knowing much about railroading or such things couldn't tell me anything else either...

Free caboose! Meadow Vista,CA said the add. You come get it. Address and phone number too. The add for this free caboose nearby ran about three years ago also. I went to the place to see about a photo but could never find anything...

Surfing the net completely bored outa my mind...

Here Kitty Kitty or Not!

Posted December 31st, 2009 at 08:57 PM by John Barnhill (Foothills Adventures)

This mill was recently mothballed and I figured now would be a good time to check it out since there wasn't much activity anymore. I stopped at the office but despite the door being unlocked and several cars around, I couldn't find anybody to ask if I could take a walk around. Ok...

A quick duck under the gate...

Loose Caboose, Gone Hunting

Posted November 28th, 2009 at 09:11 PM by John Barnhill (Foothills Adventures)

For my latest trip I decided to tie up some loose ends related to my backyard caboose hunting. I still had two more down near Mokolumne Hill and San Andreas to find from previous trips.

Armed with my camera, maps and a tank of gas plus some instructions through some emails, I headed out.

Its a bit of a trip to get to this particular hunting range for me but basically Hwy 49 south is the path. Once at Sutter Hill I headed east on Ridge Rd till I hit Hwy 88, then to...

Constructive Critisism

Posted November 26th, 2009 at 07:48 PM by John Barnhill (Foothills Adventures)

Part of this blog is to give visitors to my site a behind the scenes insight as to how I go about constructing my site.

Since I'm not really an expert on any of the topics I've covered, I've tried real hard to make sure I get my facts right and provide info and photos the real experts would appreciate. I get a ton of excellent feedback that so far, I'm doin great. This from longtime persuers of the hobby including steam restoration guys, museum people and book authors. This totally...
