ALBANY, N.Y. - Norfolk Southern Railway has chosen the site of its $40 million Mechanicville, N.Y., intermodal yard, the railroad announced today. With $3 million in state funds, the yard will be built on the site of the former Boston & Maine yard there.
The Patriot Corridor is a partnership between NS and Pan Am Railways to compete for intermodal and auto shipments in New England [see August 2008 "News."] The new terminal will handle both intermodal and automotive parts shipments.
Construction is planned to start early next year and wrap up by April 2010.
