Frenchtown, MT (thanks, Ken for pointing out the correct location!), now in Alberton, MT several miles west of its former location. Now an antique dealer:

Wilsall, MT, about 25 miles north of Livingston, MT. A local farm supply dealer stores its goods on the property:

Missoula, MT. A beautiful depot is in the downtown area, easily viewed from I-90. It is just a few blocks from the equally impressive Milwaukee Road station. I think it is currently used by MRL:

Sprague was moved off site. Supposedly a group was restoring it. My contact there passed away, so...
I believe that Willbridge was owned by SP&S/OE.
It's been a few years, since I'd last seen some of these. Status may be different now. A few additions that come into mind:
Hoquiam, WA. (City? Historical society?)
Kanaskat, WA. (Third depot. Abandoned. Falling down last I knew.)
Issaquah, WA. (Issaquah Historical Society)
Snoqualmie Falls, WA. (Owned by (Puget Sound Energy) the power company)
Snoqualmie, WA. (Northwest Railway Museum)
North Bend, WA, is not an NP depot!
Thorp, WA. (Moved, private owner)
Toppenish, WA. (The Northern Pacific RY Museum)
Naches, WA (On site. Private owner.)
Wallace, ID. (Moved. Museum)
Paradise, MT. (On site. MRL?)
Dixon, MT. (On site. MRL?)
Missoula, MT. (On site. MRL?)
Hamilton, MT. (On site. MRL?)
Ronan, MT. (Second depot in town storefront. Status?)
Polson, MT. (Same as Ronan.)
Needing to be checked: Kent, WA. and Bellingham, WA Freight House.

Yes. The NP platted and built at North Yakima. Then convinced the citizens of Yakima to move there. North Yakima became Yakima. And old Yakima became Union Gap.

Unless I'm mistaken, there is still a NP depot standing empty in Bozeman,MT, and Boxcab sidestepped around a biggy, the station in Livingston, adjacent to the NP maintenance facilities there, now occupied by MRL. The station in Livingston is very similar to the station in Missoula. Sorry...no pictures! There was also a depot at Belgrade, MT till a couple years ago, when it was jacked up and moved to a parking lot a block away where it sat on blocks for quite a while before disappearing to...............??????

In what condition is Kanaskat?
Most folks don't know there were four depots by that name. The first three on the old line. The original wood which burned. It's replacement, a box car depot, and the surviving brick structure. The last on the post- dam construction line, which was demolished years ago.

Ken,
Not sure about the SLSE depot out there. Never heard of it.
The only depot I know of for them was the shared Union depot on the north side of the Spokane River in downtown Spokane. Shared with the OR&N. I know of no other Eastern Washington depots.
What do you know?
BoxcabE50
June 20th, 2008, 02:01 AM
The depot I mentioned, was supposedly at, or near the end of where the SLS&E built west. In the back of my mind, I want to say the station name started with a "J". I doubt that site would be mentioned in Report On Washington Territory. But perhaps?

Just found out from the book, "Spokane's Street Railways'" that the SLSE also had depots at Garden Springs and Jamieson.
The depot from Jamieson was moved to Hayford, a different WWP interurban stop on the line. It was located at the corner of Electric Road (now the former ROW) and Center Road. After the interurban quit in 1922, this depot was moved west to Hayford road to become an automobile service station.
The depot at Garden Springs was located ON a trestle crossing Garden Springs Creek and was reached by a stairway of 14 steps. There was also a freight loading platform.
---------------
As quickly as the NP closed off this section after purchase in 1900, I don't think they ever really claimed these depots as their own.

June 20th, 2008, 02:17 AM

Duh moment for me. Yes, it was west. I was thinking of the other portion of the SLSE building east to meet somewhere in the middle of the state.

Jamieson. I'm sure that's it. Back about 1987-1988, a fellow I knew had been exploring that area. And claimed the depot was still in existance.

Jamieson still has the WWP substation. You can see it easily from I90. The SLSE had a residence there for the depot agent that survived to the WWP.

He gave me a sketched map to the site. But I could never locate a depot. A long time friend, who was a Spokane resident, looked for the depot site on my behalf. But he had no luck either. I've been looking for that sketch. But I might have sent it to my pal in Spokane. And he's now departed. So the map is probably long gone...
Oh well.

It's still in pretty good shape, but in a faded yellow color! It's still on it's original spot, but somebody owns the land, as it has a kinda' chain-link fence around it. I have pic's of it, but no way to scan them.

This doesnt have anything to do with depots but I didnt realize this until just recently. If you go about 100yds RR east of the 3rd Kanaskat depot and turn due North towards the current BNSF mainline, their is still a water tower sitting almost right along side Kanaskat-Cumberland Rd. back in the trees a bit though. Dont know if it still has water in it but it is still standing.

Earlier in this topic, I'd mentioned Snoqualmie and Snoqualmie Falls.
NP Snohomish is long gone. Torn down about 25 years ago. GN Snohomish is also long, long gone. Only the Milw depot remains. A two story brick building, just off the north end of the Avenue D Bridge, a few feet east on 1st Street. It's back end almost hangs over the river bank.

The Elllensburg, WA NP depot is being restored by a local preservation group. I haven't hear much lately, but I'll be there later this month and will post some photos.
It was in pretty bad shape the last time that we were in town (January, 2007) - boarded up, and suffering from vandalism and neglect. Apparently years of snowfall have weakened the roof, and a considerable amount of guano will need to be removed from the upper portion, due to pigeons taking over.
We were in Yakima and Toppenish, WA on Memorial Day, 2006. The Toppenish depot has been beautifully restored and is the NP Museum. Yakima is also in nice shape, with a restaurant on one end.
I'll try to get some photos on here by the end of the month.:tb-biggrin:

I went on a little photo trip last weekend.....one stop I wanted was the holcom cement plant, and low and behold, there's a depot sitting right next to the MRL mainline (ex NP) . MRL is using it for storage. Location is Trident, MT. Look this one up.....Quendall, WA! It's just north of Renton on the west side of the tracks at the old Barbee Mill. I have been in it before when I did flat repairs on logging trucks up to a year ago. It was the offices for a logging company and it had all sorts of old railroad pics in it, and the "Quendall" station sign still on the front. The funny thing is it was turned 180 degrees from the tracks, but in the same spot. It was made from brick. The logging company moved out when Paul Allen moved the Seahawks training camp on the land now, so it might be gone. I'll take a drive up there soon.

What kind of details do you need?
You can probably freelance a fair amount. There were plenty of variances between depots, in how the operators bay, telegraph table, side desks, etc, might be set up. Depending upon how busy that station was...

You can add Warden, WA to the list, though the current owner, the Columbia Basin Railway, built a new building next door. You can still visit the former MILW depot in Warden too.
Not sure when it was built, but there is a depot and water tower in Wheeler, WA. The depot is a much newer style than was typically built by the NP, but I do not think the BN built it.
Also, I think there may be something left of the one in Bruce, WA.

BTW, I found some information on when the Coulee City depot was remodeled to a single story depot. It is the latest entry on my blog. Link is below.
Hmmm. That 1884 date simply cannot be correct.

Can’t help with any depots along that line, but here’s a link to a web site I use to find them and other RR structures.
Railroad Station Historical Society (http://www.rrshs.org/)
Also if there a structure not in the list, or one listed there gone. Please contact them and let them know. So they can keep things up to date.

That site looks pretty incomplete for the few counties in WA that I checked.

After looking through their site, I was reminded of a couple. But also see some missing. And some errors.

RSHS listing are incomplete and will be continue to be without more updates from your own areas or travels.
That’s why I ask, if something missing or has the wrong information, sent them an Email, I’ve been doing for awhile now.

I intend to do just this. However, I am away from home at present. Thus seperated from my data. I want that information at hand, when I do make contact.

Where is Sprague sitting, in relation to the original site?

I do not know where the depot originally was but it is currently sitting about 50 feet north of the tracks on the west side of the overpass. Also I think Coeur D Alene has a depot in town still, I remember seeing a brick RR depot last year.

Sounds like Sprague is not far from it's original site.
Was that brick building a restaurant? If so, should be the NP.
