Sometimes Mother Nature gets in the way. But this time it was minor, just a tree across the tracks.

How about CSX#2499 with a couple ballast cars behind it, a pay loader to load the ballast, and a track hoe on a flat.

Not really rail related but our club was invited to an operating session by a neighboring club. Outside on the street, they were having a car show and I saw this gorgeous beast. Its pristine condition brought back memories of my younger days.

Along the same theme, here's an ancient (1941) Lima locomotive which transported many passengers on the Southern Pacific Daylight runs, plus a hot rod Buick convertible which starred as the chase car in one of 4449's videos, and a tricked out Mustang, much newer. My kinds of transportation. These were grouped together at the annual "Cruisin' Sherwood" car show in Sherwood, OR, June 14.

Sweet jesus look at that BEATIFUL Challenger!

My thoughts exactly NSFan14.
I believe it had a 383 in there. The paint job was fresh out of the shop on Friday. The interior was original and immaculate. However, the suspension was totally redone with modern components so it handles as nice in the twisties as it accelerates in a straight line.

I have lived in Massachusetts for over 30 years and this is the first time I have been to the canal though I have been over it many times. Alas no trains or freighters.

Steve, I'll assume the bike trail is a former RR right-of-way?

Sweet Challenger, DD!

Hemi -Edit:
From this site:
Cape Cod Canal, Canal Story, Army Corps of Engineers, US Army (http://www.nae.usace.army.mil/recreati/ccc/history/canalstory.htm)
Acting on Parsons recommendation, the Company also placed narrow gauge railroad tracks along the Canal route to enable railed dump cars to carry material off to the sides of the cut. Although the tracks had to be moved frequently as the digging progressed, the method did work fairly well.
No, not really as the eventually responsibility for the widening and straitening of the canal was taken over by the Army Corp of Engineers and where the bike path is now the above mentioned RR would not have been.

My understanding is that the main export using the Providence and Worcester RR from Cape Cod is trash which is taken to a furnace where it is burned to create electricty.

Here's a grain barge on the Willamette River, with some hoppers just behind it. You can just barely see the COTTON BELT lettering on one of them.
