I was operating the Atlantic Coast Line’s Champion over the Southern Coastline last night, enjoying the ¼ scale size as it moved around the layout.

The three E-8’s upfront were pulling the train of eleven cars as if they were not even coupled on. The Mars light, the head light and engine sounds were working as advertised. You could almost see the engine crew wave as they passed by.

Those eleven cars with the ACL name boards, with the roofs painted black, the end car diaphragms having striker plates and lighted interiors with lots of people aboard made a very nice train over twenty feet long.

On the double main track headed in the opposite direction was a Southern freight pulled by three SD-24’s. Many cars later the cab came by with the conductor seated and having a cup of coffee.

Realism. You bet.
