Cross-posting here with the N scale forum....

After having a SDL39 built in N scale for my upcoming layout, and working through the struggles with the builder to find a solution to seveal issues that surround the unique nature of the carbody and trucks of the SDL39 that the Milwaukee Road, (then Soo, then Wisconsin Central) operated, and coming close, I decided to explore the possiblity of either finding someone to help me or finding someone to actually make a model of this unique locomotive.

Mission accomplished... almost.

I've found someone who is willing to do the work, who already does resin casting and makes his on molds etc... I've agreed that instead of trying to learn to do casting, I'd be better suited as a "collector", a collector of names, that is.

In order to do a production run, I need to find orders for 100 units. The locomotives would cost about $200 each, and would be undecorated body shell kits, with assembled mechanisms included, and many photo-etched details, including see through fan grilles, handrail sets, MU hoses, windshield wipers, inertial and dynamic brake grilles, and cab side window frames.

Any MILW/SOO/WC fans out there interested in a SDL39 or 2 (or 10?)?
You can PM me if it's easier.

Pics to the SDL39 I had built for me are here:

I used to model the Milwaukee Lines West in N before I switched to Z-scale. I would have loved a set of these pure MILW engines!! Heck, if you build it, I might buy one just 'cause!:rolleyes:

I would love to see the MP15AC done,they would sell well,just a matter of 6 scale inches.
The MP15AC's Ottumwa back in the early and mid eighties along with the SD40-2's.Didn't see any SDL39's but they are sure a neat locomotive,They had a lot of them around Mason City and they made it to the Iowa Division if I remember right.Two of them would look good for some of the locals freeing up the MP15AC's for patrol and yard duty.The HO Sale version of this engine looks great and is very well done. These units really look sharp and would look good on any layout,I would like to have a couple MP15AC's to go with them doing patrol and yard work so the SDL39's could do some of the local freights.The Atlas MP15DC could be used as a starting point for the MP15AC,the chassis would have to be a little longer and so would the shell if made scale length or it could be left the same length as the MP15DC a scale difference of 6" or about a little over 1/4" longer in N Scale.The drive train would have to be a little longer too.I would use 2 or 3 MP15AC's especially if made scale length. Here is an update on the SDL39 project:

The models will be made by Jeff Briggs at briggsmodels.com. You're welcome to visit his site and check out his work, but for right now, all questions and sign-ups for the list of interested modelers should be sent to me as a PM or to my email, please.

The price per unit will be $225.00. For that, you will get a SDL39 kit that includes:
* A custom made drive, operationally compatable with Atlas and Kato drives.
* Same gearing as Atlas current models
* DCC compatable with provision made for easy installation of a TCS M1 decoder
* Micro-Trains couplers
* Lights
* Laser cut windows
* Photo-etched details such as radiator grilles, fan grilles, window frames, windshield wipers, handrails, cut levers, MU hoses, lift rings, internal intake and exhaust grilles, number boards, tuck brake shoe detail, light housings, and more.

In order to go forward with this project, we need 100 units to be committed to. We're currently at 25. Please, if you're interested, contact me. If you have any questions I can answer or that I can get answers for you about, please don't hesitate to ask.

Thanks!!!
