I have searched so long on Google maps in France that my eyes are buggy. I wish the Google Maps would show RR's, not just roads.

Google Maps and Google Earth both show RR's on them. You just have to be at the right zoom level and mode on Google Maps before they show up. What I mean by mode for Google Maps you have to be in MAP mode, not Satellite or Hybrid and have to be at about 50% or better in zoom. Not as good as Google Earth but wanted to point out the feature is there is all.

Not all rail lines show up on Google Map. Depends on the country. In North America the symbol is two parallel rails with ties. In Australia they show as just a single smooth black line. In Russia they are black and white stripe lines. Parts of Africa they don't show up at all no matter how close you zoom in.

I had realized that I was searching for a needle in the wrong haystack. There's no electrified lines in this contest. Doh!
Thanks for the info, Russ & Darren!:)

hm....no catenary, north of southern polar circle. right-hand traffic. by looking at the buildings in the top left corner of the second picture i'd place this facility probably in western europe. not sure though if there are that large facilities for non-electric trains. for sure not in switzerland.

Those yellow things look like commuter rail stops.
The land division patterns are very much NOT western U.S.
Hmmmm....

Well... the land division looks sort of like the seigneurial system. I checked around parts of Quebec. I also, on a whim, checked around Toronto, Ottawa, Helsinki, Copenhagen, the rest of Denmark, Hamburg, Lubeck, Bremen, Buxtehude....
... but I need to go to bed. I am tired.
P.S. Northern Germany is looking promising, but I haven't yet found the location.

oooof.. I give up. I've looked everywhere. Something really odd about this one. I know I'm gonna learn something when I find out the answer.
Definitely commuter rail stops. In fact, they're quite close together. The wooded area at the top of the picture looks like hills to me, which is why I wasn't looking in northern Germany too much. Barcelona looked promising, but no commuter rail (they have a subway, IIRC).

Thought of one more place to look....
Taipei, Taiwan. :)
North of town, suburb of Chi-li.
Those skyscrapers in the new photo Scott gave us were telling me Asia. Europeans don't do that much.

I knew if someone got to the right country they would find it quickly. That building sticks out like a sore thumb! :) Of course Taiwan isn't that big either.

Even at the altitude shot you posted last, Scott, it is HUGE.
Wow!

I only recently found out that CAT (Civil Air Transport) was a front for the CIA doing covert operations (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Civil_Air_Transport)in the far east. So I suppose I got to fly on a "Spy" plane.:) I was seven years old at the time.
