October 20th, 2007, 04:13 AM
1. All challenges close at 12 midnight (24:00 hours) Eastern Standard Time on Monday 22nd October 2007, and will be noted with a "Time's up!" post within the thread.
2. Please use the challenge as a motive to take a new photograph rather than using a photograph that you have taken in the past.
3. Challenges are open to everyone, have fun!!
4. Though not required, commenting on other peoples pictures is encouraged.
5. Only one image per participant so please choose the image carefully.
6. Any posts with images taken before the commencement of the challenge will be deleted.
7. For photos to be eligible they must be taken between the 19th and 22nd of October 2007.
8. Ensure dates and times on your camera are correct.
I look forward to seeing many contributors, remember this is to encourage all modellers to take a shot of the subject rather than post a photo taken in the past.

One of my favorite engines, a Cotton Belt B40-8, backs on to the turntable. I built this N Scale of Nevada kit during many hours at the Belmont Shore Club while waiting for a call to go to work. It is now on an Atlas mechanism; all the details here were provided in the kit. The front right corner steps were demolished in a crash from the layout. I completely rebuilt the steps using strip styrene; this was one of my first attempts at scratch building. I was so tickled at how they turned out that I left them in primer paint! Well, enough of that nostalgia stuff. Here's the picture.

How long was the B40 built before Atlas released it, Flash? Love the weathering....

Wikipedia says they were built in 1988-1989.
Spookshow says the model was first released by Atlas in 2002 (http://www.visi.com/%7Espookshow/atlasb40-8.html). I think this is about right as my model was built around 1995. I ran it on the club layout for a long time before anyone else had one; it was the only one I had, too.
This is my chance to post the prototype where I first saw it in Dolores Yard. This is a scanned photo. I saw the same engine three days later in San Antonio Kirby yard.

GE provided the electricals for Alco to build the S-2 switchers. This is an old Arnold Rapido model that has lights added and is decorated for the Houston Belt and Terminal.
