Looks like that was once quite a yard. Are there even tracks there any more? A few cars seem to be abandoned in the dirt.

due to the brown colored river in the upper right corner and the ships in this kind of harbours i was tempted to look all over china. first thought it could be close to shanghai.

not yet successfull. could be india as well.

there must be a rather wide river with west-east orientation, an airport with roughly a 06/24 or 07/25 runway, and of course the abandoned yard in almost north-south layout.

i'll do some further searching later at home.

hey, i'm not a trainboard admin. i don't get paid to play with google earth the whole day ... ;-)

I think I am getting burned out on these. Glad I don't have to do it for a living. Even if I was only getting minimum wage doing this, I have put in enough hours to bring in a large chunk of change. Where is that punch clock? Let me at it!

Hhmmm. Large abandoned yard, some tracks pulled up,some with cars left on them. Smells like Rock Island or Milwaukee Road. But where?

Scott,

Aren't you still supposed to be working on the "Scott Stutzman Special"?

What are the chances that as I posted this, to the very second, I heard on the radio news about a car wreck in this town that has killed many people.

Strange.

Sweet! Someone finally did this one in... Congrats Keith! I looked everywhere,But the Congo in Africa!

I had looked at Lagos, Nigeria (which looked quite promising at first, btw) but I just didn't go as far south as Congo because I thought it was impossible for the cloud shadow to fall so far to the north in the southern hemisphere. The photo must have been taken in December and the cloud must be higher than it looks.

I wonder how long it's been since the yard was used. DR Congo has been in political and economic chaos (and war) since it stopped being Zaire ten years ago.

Charlie

Interestingly, it was this clue that allowed me to solve the puzzle!
Going back over previous contests, I found contest #37 was the one that
had everyone stumped for a while.
Rereading that thread, plus the clue Charlie gave was all I needed.
Much to my surprise!

And to think, I hated this stuff while in school.
