All photos that didn't make the contest. What ever the contest topic. Place your photos that you chose to not use or maybe you were just a few hours late from getting in to the contest.
Here is mine.

Headlight contest
This was taken in the mirror of my motorcycle like the contest entry, except my arm had to be cut out of the view and I just didn't like how the cutting turned out.

Thanks camp and r-i I was looking at the 24hours of railimages when I seen so many head light photos I thought we needed a place to showcase the ones we didn't pick to enter in the contest.

Ok tell us the story behind this one
I was looking for different shots of headlights. I decided to take some pics of a headlight assembly on this particular locomotive. I took several shots of the headlight cluster and just kept moving in closer. I noticed the "GE" logo on the headlight and then a "lightbulb" lit up! I tried several to try and get both the logo and the element of the headlight bulb in focus. But alas, all I have is a "point and shoot" camera. This photo has good focus on the logo, but the element and related parts were not in as good of focus as my entry pic in the contest.
I had a hard time deciding which shot to enter in the contest. The others were rejected, but they all had merits of their own.

HA somebody has to be last. I have been known to get "no" votes or tie for last place. For me it's the fun of getting a photo and joining in on the contest.

It was not in any contest.:tb-biggrin:But , specifically "4 axle". I had a different picture that actually easnt as good. And yes that is NKP 765 that I had the honor of being behind the throttle and running her up and down the tracks a few times.

You just should only take one photo for the contest. Taking three photos makes it tuff to pick what one goes to the contest.

Tiring to photograph the bridge and along comes a train to get in the photo
mrhedley
November 18th, 2008, 09:06 PM
'Meeting at the twin bridges' didn't make the cut because it appears that had the camera angled making it look like the bridge in the background is sloped upward. It also really showed the seam where my two photo backdrops are joined. Too bad because this shot had the most accurate color.
'Two viaducts' showed a little more detail of my layout, but I couldn't get the right angle to show both bridges and get the right background detail in the frame.
Two things are evident. I need to spend more time learning all my camera's functions (Nikon L8). Things look different through the lens than they actually appear. A scene may look good to the naked eye, but it may take some effort to reproduce it on camera.
Some of you guys are really good at creating photo scenes. I appreciate any advice you may want to offer.
