Very interesting yard using lots of space and cut into the wildness on the west side of a substantial population center with modern freeways. Unable to see if the system is electrified but judging from the unit trains at the service shop at the southwest corner of the yard(s) I want to think electrified. West to east flowing river that has been dammed? I guess I'll try Australia... lots of space.

I travelled along many rivers in the U.S. and some in Canada and I couldn't find it. Maybe US and Canada is where I'm going wrong?? I picked up on the same observations as Steve, but I didn't think of Australia. Hmm... :)

It looks temperate to me, but I, too, have not found it. I tried running a google search on hydroelectric dams and came up with too many possibilities to list.

If the river weren't flowing west to east I would be looking hard in the western U.S./Canada, but hardly any rivers run west to east on this side of the Great Divide, and certainly very few if any that are big enough to consider for hydroelectric power.... unless, maybe, it is an irrigation dam... hmmm... didn't see a whole lot of transmission lines coming out of there now, did I?

In the lower right corner there is a divided highway ending in a round-about. That tells me that we're in Europe somewhere.
Not only is it a round-about, but are those RR tracks running thru the middle of it?

This is in North America. I've visited this city many times and my opinion is that it is a very European type of place - not that I've ever been to Europe.

My USA railroad map does not go that far east. I did check out the wye between Fredericton and McAdam New Brunswick but spent most my time in Canada searching around Ottawa and Montreal. Good job Steve.

Initially I looked throughout north America but the particulars of the image would never add up. Then I looked at Western Europe, there is very little undisturbed country over there. Then Charlie posted his hint and the rest was easy. I didn't post the answer directly just in case someone else was still looking and wanted to post the answer so that they might feel that accomplishment.
