1. All challenges close at 12 midnight (24:00 hours) Eastern Standard Time on Monday 23rd July 2007, and will be noted with a "Time's up!" post within the thread.
2. Please use the challenge as a motive to take a new photograph rather than using a photograph that you have taken in the past.
3. Challenges are open to everyone, have fun!!
4. Though not required, commenting on other peoples pictures is encouraged.
5. Only one image per participant so please choose the image carefully.
6. Any posts with images taken before the commencement of the challenge will be deleted.
7. For photos to be eligible they must be taken between the 20th and 23rd of July 2007.
8. Ensure dates and times on your camera are correct.

I look forward to seeing many contributors, remember this is to encourage all modellers to take a shot of the subject rather than post a photo taken in the past.

I think we've had this discussion in another forum, but what is the definition of "scratch-built" as it applies to this contest. For example, if we want to submit a structure model in N scale, must the doors and windows also be scratchbuilt or can it follow a lesser standard where detail parts like Grandt Line windows and doors may be used?

No hard and fast rules, if you modified a structure that's fine. The challenge is all about showcasing something that is original basically.

What about scale models that aren't necessarily in a commonly accepted modelling scale?

Colonel

Yes that would be fine

I think I will have to sit this one out. I am miles away from my scratch built stuff or any means to take a photo of any of it. Looking forward to the entries.

Since this is the newest thing I have scratchbuilt, here's my entry. A small wooden bridge. :)

Hey,
I can't take credit for it,but since its on my layout,I think I can enter it. It's Paulinskills Viaduct that was built by Scott Lupia. This "piece of art" is awesome. The pictures don't do it justice.

I love bridges.
Secret weapon, I have to agree the art deco viaduct is a work of art, the finish looks just like cement.
Colonel, superb detailing with the railings.

I don't have any appropriate entries this week. Lots of half done kitbashs though.

Love that bridge Colonel.

Some great entries so far. Here's mine - I took my old N scale Heljan turntable from the 1970's and scratch built the operators cabin and the center tower/platform. I had to replace the handrails along the track since they were broken off while in storage. Weathered up the pit a little. Hope this now looks more like a typical C&O turntable.

Being a fellow EL/Erie/DLW modeler, it's tough to complete against Scott Lupia's gorgeous model of the Paulinskill Viaduct.

This shot from one part of my under construction layout contains a number of scratch built and kitbashed items. The centerpiece of the picture is a model of the DLW Station in Binghamton, New York. It is scratch built from styrene, with windows and doors from Tichy and others. The steel bridges were made from Micro Engineering girders and Central Valley box girder supports, with a modified Atlas crossing bridge. On the left side behind the bridge, is the Kilmer building complex kitbashed from DPM Hilltowne hotel and modular parts. And on the right side behind the bridge is a model of the frequently photographed McTighe Grocery/Kingsley warehouse block. All of these items represent real buildings in Binghamton in the 60's. At least half of the layout (the urban parts) will be based on prototype. The rest will be a little more free lanced.

Some very nice work in the other photos also. I'm sorry there aren't more entries.

Tower 121, San Antonio, Texas. Grandt Line windows, but otherwise completely scratchbuilt. I'm looking for a photo of the prototype.

I don't know, but I thnk Colonel may be on a break, so he can't answer right now. Colonel will delete it if it is too late; mine may be too late, too.

That's very nice Scott. Are the wires for lights? Interesting to build it so it can be removed.

Yup, The wires are for the lights. I built it to be removable, so if it got damaged or if the lights quit working it would be easier to repair.
It's been in a previous layout,But now it's waiting for a new spot in the garage. ;)

Flash,
I like your tower very much. Building after the prototype is always a challenge AND fun.
I remember when I build the station "Naumburg" (http://www.westportterminal.de/naumburg/Naumburg_2x.jpg) . I took pictures and made after them my drawings. Then I've got a copy of the prototype plan, even 1:87 !!!

I loved that tower, but I always held my breath when I used the bridge.

Yes, the approaches were very steep and it was practically single lane. You couldn't see who was coming the other way until you reached the top. I mentioned in another thread that this was the Olive Street bridge where George Elwood took a lot of his San Antonio photos. Here is a picture from the Olive Street bridge (http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/sp/sp9552.jpg) with the edge of tower 121 on the right.
