I'm hoping someone somewhere on the net can help me. I am looking for a book written by a man named Robert C. Brown who once worked for the CB&Q. The book is called "The Burlington's Peavine Line" and is about the short line that ran from Ft. Madison, IA to Batavia, IA. This line ran through my grandparent's hometown and I've been trying to find out everything I can about it. Unfortunately, all of Mr. Brown's books were self published and are now out of print since he passed away in 2003. So far I've tried the Burlington Route Historical Society, a couple of Iowa University libraries, a few museums that have train displays, and even looked on eBay. So far, no luck. Any help anyone could give me on finding this book would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to Trainboard!
Look on Amazon!
I found books I never knew existed, and generally they are priced to sell. Give 'em a try!
I did a quick search under thpse parameters, but no luck. I think you can set uup a search that will email you if an item comes up for sale, though.

It would never be on Amazon.
When I said his books were self published, I mean they were written printed bound and shipped out of his garage. He did all the work himself and they never went to a publisher of any sort.
Thanks for the suggestion, though.

Amazon sells used books too.. If someone bought it, and wanted to sell it, it is not publisher-dependant to be on Amazon.
Or am I not getting your point?:o

Ah, I think I'm getting yours now.
I think it would be a high imporbablility for it to show up there even used since his books are so rare but it might be worth a shot. It can't be any worse than the responses I've gotten elsewhere looking for it.
Thanks. :)

Other sources for out of print or rare railroad books include:
Jim Shepard's Book List
http://www.giga-usa.com/sssandover/rrbooks.htm#ooprrbooks
Railpub.com
http://www.railpub.com/
RailroadBooks.biz
http://www.railroadbooks.biz/
And you can always try Abebooks, althought not railroad oriented.

But you're certainly looking for a rare one. Good luck.
