Oh man!!! It should be great! I'm turning bright green with envy!!!
You should get the book The Chesapeake & Ohio Class T-1 2-10-4 Steam Locomotive from the Chesapeake and Ohio Historical Society.
Mighty fine looking engines.

Looks good but how does it run? Looks like it might have started out as an MRC Birkshire. And I know mine never ran worth a hoot.

Aww, shucks - looks OK! Besides, bet it looks fine when it's running. I don't count rivets anyway. Most close up photos in N really bring out the details - and sometimes the ones you don't want to see!

The mechanism is a con cor 2-10-2. The frame and tender are from a LL Berk with a piece of plastic tubing to strech it out. The Commonwealth trucks are from con cor. It runs pretty well. Just dont try and make any sharp turns.

Oldrk, i didn't know any of these were still availiable; they're from Key Imports, right? I hope you got this loco for a decent price, as i know brass can get quite expensive, especially steam. I'm a fellow C&O modeler in N-Scale, like you a Hoosier resident. I also joined the C&O Historical Society earlier this year. Let me know if any of these beauts are still availiable, after seeing / reading the review of this engine in Model Railroad News (the HO BLI version), i'd like to consider adding this brute of a steamer to my N-Scale C&O steam / diesel collection!!!! Thank you for any info you could provide me, berkmeister.

Here is the site listing it as in stock.

And It's only....$850 from N scale supply. You need to e-mail them about it as they dont show it on the website.
Hope that doesnt sting too badly.

Oldrk, love those locos, love those bridges too!! Especially that high timber bridge supporting that Alleghany!!!! What's the size of your layout? I'm curious about Key N-Scale steam; do they run and pull well? Are these equipped with traction tires? My Texas type, if i purchase one, would definitely be pulling it's share of the revenue load on my club and home layout!!!! Great photo, thank you for sharing it with me and everyone! berkmeister

My pictures

The Allegheny will pull around 45 cars on level track. No sharp curves. It does have traction tires. Layout is around 14x18. Basically 2 feet around the outside walls with a 4x8 in the middle. Kind of a funny looking M shape. Do you have pictures posted here? Tell us about your layout.

My layout is a 4'x6' table, it's in need of cleaning and refurbishing, so it's nothing to look at right now. Sorry, i have no pictures to show, but you can check out the model train club i belong to. It has both HO and N-Scale layouts, th N is approx. 10'x14'. We own the property and the building, so it's not likely we'll get kicked out anytime soon! Our club has a website you can check out: www.trainweb.org/ew. By the way, took a look at a bunch of your photos, quite a variety there, lookin' good!!!! berkmeister

Berkmeister - I checked out your club website- looks really good! I grew up in Garrett, and they have a nice little museum there with an HO layout in the basement. I don't get down to visit much since my dad passed away - he was one of the people that operated the museum. If you ever get over towards Garrett, stop by and check it out. There is a link to my website for the Garrett Historical Society below in my signature.

Tim, i've been to Garrett countless times, very familiar with the museum and model r.r. club there. I personally know several individuals who are / were members of the club, also done a lot of railfanning since the early '90s in that area.
Are you a C&O modeler? What scale? Seemed on your posts that you do both HO and N.I love that C&O caboose parked by the museum, trying to find one of those types in N-Scale. berkmeister

Here's a pic of my dad (Pop - Dale Loutzenhiser) by the caboose at the GHS Museum. Atlas made one that is pretty close - no. 30391 Extended Vision in N. I model B&O/C&O in both N and HO.

What all do they have at the GHS museum? What are the days and hours? I might make a road trip there soon. Tim, did your dad work for the C&O?

Pop didn't work for the C&O. He was a railfan and loved model railroading. He spent most of his spare time working at the museum and particularly enjoyed the HO layout in the basement. Follow this link for more info and some pics of the museum - note that the phone numbers listed now have a 260 area code - and my mom's phone number 260-357-3002 may not be working because she recently moved to a nursing home (I need to update the site):

Very impressive, oldrk, it even looks massive next to your Clinchfild Challenger!!!! Glad to hear it has traction tires and will pull up to 65 cars; what's your Challenger capable of pulling? I recently spent some big bucks buying my Challenger (Clinchfield), but haven't pulled anything of significance yet. Love the photos you put up, a magnificent liitle jewel you got there! Long live C&O big steam!!!! (in N-Scale).

Very impressive, oldrk, it even looks massive next to your Clinchfild Challenger!!!! I was going to say that. I'm sometimes surprised by how large non-articulated steam looks in comparison with articulateds.

The C&O Texas was one of the largest non articulated steamers ever built. They used them to pull 160-200 empty hoppers back to the coal fields. I have had the Challenger pull 100 cars, but it does have an extra set of traction tires. I need to get the Allegheny out and snap a few pictures with them together. Not sure if my insurance company will allow it !
