We spent most of the weekend digging out from Friday’s 4 to 6 inches of sleet. It took most of Saturday to get the walkways clear and the cars dug out. Our driveway still has about 3 to 4 inches of sleet/ice on it. When we finally were able to get out my son’s basketball team lost in the semi-finals so his season is done. My daughter’s basketball game was canceled due to the continuing clean-up from the storm.
I continued painting some detail parts and made a few repairs on some structures where little odds and ends had gotten knocked off. I did run some trains for a while but not much else got done.

I finished installing a Lok-Sound decoder in a Kato Mikado as well as adding all the detail parts.
I also took some new photo's of the JJJ&E and also managed to work on some of the rock formations on the addition.
Stay cool and run steam.....:cool::cool:

On Saturday we got the benchwork in for the main part of the second level and put in the vertical beams that will support the helix riser brackets (my homework is to attach the L brackets that will support the helix laps. With the second level installed, I got out the fixtures that I had planned to use for lighting the lower level; the cords are way too short, so I'll have to write to the manufacturer to get longer cords.
Sunday was the SCWD Youth Group meeting. Since we lost our lease on the Middleton Depot, we met in a back room at a LHS. The kids all assembled a structure kit that they could then take home and we all got a nice discount in the shop for holding our meeting there. I picked up some Woodland Scenics roadbed ramps for the layout and some reading material while my son got some styrene cement for his projects. I was purposely holding off spending with the show in Rockford coming up this weekend where I'll be showing NTrak modules. When we got home, I pulled out the homasote that I'd been holding for the layout and started looking at where the track is going to go.

I took some photos. With a layout this size, not every composition is successful. I'm up to the plutonium research reactor, and haven't yet figured out how to shoot it. Taking an entire turnaround loop, it's pretty big, with a lot of detail, and a sizeable yard.

Ran trains Friday night then went to the Worlds Greatest Hobby on Tour show in Ft Worth Saturday. As ususal saw a couple of folks I hadn't seen in a while. Sunday was NASCAR. I did take a few pics at the show that didn't turn out too bad so I'll try and post a show report latter.

Complete change of direction. Decided not to pursue Layout #4, it has been officially deep-sixed. Tore it completely out and put everything back as it was. Only lost 3 months and a couple dollars.
It was not going the way I had hoped, and I could tell there were going to be far too many compromises in the end. So, to heck with it. Most of it is re-usable.
Now I've developed a new plan (Layout #5) which is MUCH simpler, and involves two hollow-core doors. I will be able to get trains up and running on this plan in short order. But it will have years of finish work to keep me busy and interested.
