C&O 2-8-4s

Thought it might be best to start a new thread to post views and info on the C&O 2-8-4s. Here are some thumbnails to show the two main types (click on thumbnail for larger view):

Notice in these views that PM #1222 has the sand dome approx. in the middle of the boiler behind the steam dome; the others have the sand dome forward of the steam dome

Are the different n scale 2-8-4s all the same version?

Tim, here's a "hybrid" for ya. The NKP 765 marauded around in 1993 disguised as C&O 2765. This shot taken at Hinton, WVa on the New River trip 10/24/93. The sand dome is obviously not right for a C&O Kanawah, as you pointed out. :teeth:

So far the only 2-8-4s that I know of - MRC, Rivarossi, Life Like/Walthers - all pretty much are based on the design with the sandbox behind the steam dome.
Walthers has an add in some magazines recently advertising the HO 2-8-4 "Berkshire" - 3rd Series.
Apparently They will be available in these versions:
C&O Class K-4C
Pere Marquette Class N-2 with forward mounted sand dome!!!
Nickle Plate Class S-3 with Mars Light
Unlettered
All are available with sound and DCC or in standard DC no sound.
We need to let Walthers know that we would sure like to see the same thing in N!

Fitz - when I first saw a picture of "2765", it was a side view, and I thought it would be just like the PM and NKP engines - when I saw the front view, I realized that they had done some cosmetic changes! I really need to get a copy of a video or DVD of New River Masquerade by Pentrex - I guess there's lots of fall shots in there.
