The California High Speed Rail Authority has posted a neat little video on their homepage....

Looks like this may be slowly moving forward, one of the first major civil engineering projects to pass it's EIS without any pending lawsuits.

Cross your fingers in CA. Looks like things might be a changing.

Now, how many years will it be until Texas get a system like this? Probably 20 years after CA.

I like how all of the freight train models look to be Santa Fe. :shade:

My thoughts are watch for the domino effect much like the light rail resurgence in the 80's and 90's. Once one State lays down a line and starts to recoup the cost of development and the overall traffic bennefits, much like the TGV lines, other states will push forward their lines as well. I do wish though that the FRA or DOT would establish a recomended set of standards, so say in the south east, Georgia builds an HSR line and then so does Florida, and North Carolina, they are somewhat interchangeable. And thus leading to a National/Regional network.

I am as pro rail as all of you. However I must say I will be suprised when and if it happends. There is already a tug of war over the money and it will continue until the first train runs.

I do not expect it to happen in my life time. Maybe my grandaughter will see it come true.

Hey, I'll just be tickled pink when Colorado gets commuter rail service. They're still only talking about studying it. And FREX (http://www.frontrangeexpress.com/) keeps rollin' along.

:wink2:This gets me wondering... If California actually does get high speed rail, will they take all their former residents back from Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico... ? :wink2:

I agree this is still a long shot, but it has come pretty far from near death a couple of years ago. One of the facets that I believe will help push this through is HSR will create a development, (read Tax revenue,) explosion in the central valley. With cheap land and homes in that area, a person could potentially live in Fresno and Commute to Sacramento or Palmdale.
