As far as the Cincinnatian cars, I have drawings complete. I have a vinyl cutter and I was planning on cutting the sides in layers on that out of .005 styrene. The cutter won't cut all the way through but it scores the plastic well enough that I can fold and break out the cuts. I have one side put together as a test and it worked better than expected. As a back up plan, if I get a car built and I don't like it, I have been assembling the parts to do photo etching. I may try my hand at that. Chris333 has been having great success with Z scale stuff so I think I can pull it off in N.
The loco so far. It will be going on a MP Pacific chassis. Waiting on a motor and gearing to finish.

And the drawings for the car set.

Nice very nice! I'm in the process of repowering the Riv Heavy Pacific "Washington". Well I should say putting the Heavy Pac shell on the MP Pacific since I wont be using the tender either! I'll end up making it "green" and adding it to my "excursion fleet". When you say you're waiting on a motor and gearing I take it you are looking for better performance?

Mainly I am waiting for a motor because of size. I don't like the way there is no cab interior on the MP pacifics. I was trying to aquire a motor out of the MP Mikado becuse it has a shorter fly worm and it would allow the motor to move farther forward, giving me a full cab. I gave up on that and I now have a faulhaber on the way for it. I saw another thread about quieting MP pacifics and one gentleman replaced e the motor and worm with parts from NWSL. I am going to get the worm and gear mentioned in that thread to complete it, if I can figure out the gear pitch of the worm.

WOW! That is INCREDIBLE!! Unlike so many "streamlined steamers", I think the B&O's looked good without looking gaudy.
If only they had saved one... and a Big Six... and E27... and an EM1...

Thank you, I should have more updated pictures tonight. I picked up a Faulhaber 1219 motor this week and some gears from NWSL to finish the remotoring part of the project. That will tuck the motor in tight enough that I can work on having an open cab. Now I need to find pictures of the cab interior.
My other big probem is valve gear. The MP Pacific has Walschert valve gear that is not right for the B&O P7's. I'm not sure how I am going to address that yet.

It ends up being just slightly slower than my Bachmann Spectrum Consolidation. At low throttle, they are speed matched, as you increase the throttle, the Consolidation starts to pull away. The P7 will start at a lower voltage. I need to start work on the tender, I just stuck the MP tender on the back with a longer drawbar to make up for the added cab overhang. It pulled a good 30 cars with one traction tire (long story).

Skip I may be able to get you pictures of the cab of President Washington at the Roundhouse Museum. I remembering taking pictures of it, however going through my collection I think I deleted them cause there were both blurry (as a result of the plexiglass in protecting the cab itself). Please let me know.
As for the valve gear alot of Jap models and Euro steam have the Walschert, hope that points you in the right direction.

I started playing with the video camera. Here is a quick vid of the loco running.
YouTube - N Scale B&O P7D Mechanism Test
Looks like I need to brighten up the source video a bit next time. The first pass is at about 75% throttle, the rest are at about 20% throttle. I almost wish it would run a bit faster on the high end. The prototype ran upwards of 75mph in a few places on it's route.

The problem with the valve gear is the main piston rod slide. I can't find anything that I am comfortable with using. I have similar assemblies from a few old MRC Berkshires but they are plastic and very crude. The steam chests on the MP loco are cast metal and the stainless slides appear to be cast into the steam chest. I have considered just building the whole assembly from scratch but the steam chests are so close to the original that I think it would be a wasted effort.
