To encourage all those budding photographers we have decided to start a photo competition. You will have 72 hours to take a photo of the subject and post it. It is aimed at giving members something to photograph and not post archived photos.
I was thinking of adopting this for a weekly contest where members have 72 hours to photograph a subject.
Here is how I see it would work. A subject would be posted for example "A Railroad Bridge" members would have 72 hours to photograph a bridge and post the pic in the thread. We would then run a poll vote for the winner. The winning photograph would then be highlighted in a special RalImages album and all contest winners would be added to the album.
1. All challenges close at 12 midnight (24:00 hours) Eastern Standard Time, and will be noted with a "Time's up!" post within the thread.
2. Please use the challenge as a motive to take a new photograph rather than using a photograph that you have taken in the past.
3. Challenges are open to everyone, have fun!!
4. Though not required, commenting on other peoples pictures is encouraged.
Have fun!!
I'm looking at starting the first competition this week. The first will be based on a prototype imges that I will disclose shortly. If this proves successful we may also start one for all modelers also.

Are you planning to use the weekend as the 72 hour time frame? I like the idea, but the closest tracks are 70 miles away.

You can use anything that takes pictures. Cellphone cameras. Dust off that old 126. Even a pinhole camera qualifies!

With "one hour" film development and a scanner on your computer, the possibilities are unlimited. Now if you are using daguerreotype or glass plates yet there may be a problem, but then you probably do your own developing anyway. ;)

Was wondering if us fallen flag fans can participate? We could maybe post a photo of the given subject and mark it as a fallen flag?
Just wonderin about that.
Thanks for any input

Well we are trying to encourage new images however I understand your dilemma, I have no problem with that actually we could always have another contest for just that, let me think about it.

The 72 hour challenge will be for photos taken during the 72 hour period, however SP8911 your suggestion has given me an idea which i will present to the administrators.

However I'm not letting you off that easily, I know that you are an SP fan but there are still lots of photos to be taken with modern railroading??? So maybe you can still participate.

The first challenge has been posted, good luck to all those that take up the challenge. I'd also be interested in members comments and how we can further improve this.
