WP would still be independent for over another year. This late evening west bound was at Stockton with 3069 on the point. By this time those old girls were getting tired and it was a treat to see it on the point. I bet the crew were cussing up a storm having to ride her from Oroville.

The f units were a big pain to climb aboard with your grip. They rode smooth once you were in them. The engineers didn't like switching with them but just crusing along they were fine.

Great picture. I remember these units well leaving Stockton. WP was such a great railroad. :)

WP #3069 is a U30B, built for WP on May 7, 1969 by GE. Thanks to Virgil Staff's D-Day on the Western Pacific for the diesel data.

Here is a U23B on the Tidewater Southern. These units weren't as rough riding as the U30B's but being on EMD trucks from traded in F units they did bounce a lot and they tended to be used trailing in consists. Their horns were great sounding too.

Nothing. By that time the WP had sent the TS units up Sacramento to work the SN. WP leased to or provided power for the TS. TS at that time was a paper railroad but the TS seniority roster still was seperate from the WP. About that time TS cars were getting relettered and numbered into the WP roster. SN still had their engines but were losing their cars also.
