I've never been able to document the extent of TrainFones nor the period in which they began or went out of use. Was every diesel equipped? I'm not looking forward to installing them on a large fleet of diesels.

I just discovered this old thread and realized that I''d been wondering exactly the same thing. A brief examination of 60s photos showed that trainphone antennas were still common in 1965, but I didn't see any in 1967. I'll try looking around more and get a more accurate timeframe - if there is one. Not all engines could have had them removed at once.

Those phones were also found on steam engines, cabin cars and some passenger cars. I will try to find the dates.

Seems it was sometime around 1945 to 1965. I have a book that mentions 1965 as when they were replaced by radios. I think the GP30s were the last engines delivered with Trainphones.
