Got the newest book from the C&O Historical Society yesterday. Chesapeake & Ohio Diesel Locomotives in Color 1949-1971 by Jerry Doyle is hard-cover, 122 pages of all color coverage of C&O power.
It begins with the story of steam's last stand on the C&O, with a beautiful picture of the M-1 Steam Turbine no. 500 spanning two pages.
Of particular interest to me is Chapter 2 The Pere Marquette. From there the other chapters chronologically cover the development of diesel power on the C&O, through the Chessie System era and into CSX.
There is brief coverage of the Alco RSD-7's and RSD-12's (no RSD-15's, since C&O did not own any of these). This is really a good book - I highly recommend it.
