Last Post: June 6th, 2006: Orange and white spotting question (http://www.trainboard.com/grapevine/showthread.php?t=75241)

We were going so well back in March/April and then this forums kind of died of topics. I'm sure there are Railfans of the IC that can start some new topics and share photographs with us.

I grew up (until 6 or 7) just down the street from the small IC yard in Cicero Ill. I was pulled off the tracks by the Cicero police there. Looking back, not too smart. I can't remember the name of it. I spent most of my time watching the Burlington with my grandpa on the other side of the "hood". Can someone who remembers it's name please let me know. Thanks.

Hope it's still there for you to explore! Most of what interested me, my favorite RRs, is all gone.

To answer the question, "Is there any Illinois Central Fans Left" I'm one of those IC fans left. I as a kid remenber living in urban Memphis, Tennessee. (4070 McCorkle Rd.). From the years 1990 to 2006 I remember aat age 6 or 7 I saw every IC/ICG locomotives and Freight cars. From the 1966 GP-40's to the SD70's and SD40-2R's. I figured that was something that would keep me out of trouble. My Fascination did not limit to the Grenada Sub. There was always the Johnston Yards. I saw all kinds of freight come in out of the Johnston Yards in my preteen years. What really fascinated me was the Illinois Central's Yazoo District between Prichard and Crenshaw, Miss. I really have some photos taken in the Johnston Yards. (That's Coming soon in My New thread: Where and How To Railfan in Memphis, Tenn.). If anybody railfanned in the Memphis Area (including the Johnston Yards.), Please let me know. Thanks.

Peeking in to see how it's going. Errr... stourbridge, going to the GATS this sunday? Lemme know.

I now have a N scale ICG caboose to go with my home painted gp38. I just need to get a decoder for that thing and it will grace the rails of my layout soon.

Another IC fan here in ILL. I grew up watching Pennsy more, I did get to see some IC and ICG, when I got to Effingham or Mattoon as a kid. Lived down in Sandoval and worked in Centraila for a year in 75. The round house and car barns were still there if I remember rightly. Don't know if any of them still standing. Wasn't smart enough to take pictures back then
Rail fan in Effingham and Mattoon now when I get a chance. Heres a photo of an IC engine at the Moticello Railroad museum, I got this summer

Clinchfield654, Here's a picture from your neck of the woods. I was stationed in Millington, TN in the mid-90's and took a few pictures of the IC through there. I just wish I had a better camera at the time!

My prosepcts are into the Watermelon business next summer. and if I can get to a place that has a railroad track next to a store of 500 ft. from it. I may get some pictures. (Any Illinois Central photos are sure enough WELCOME!!!!)

Greetings one and all. I'm new here, this is my first post.

I am the last of my family to have worked for the IC. Both of my Grandfathers were life long IC employees. My Paternal Grandfather started as a fireman and ended up as a locomotive engineer, based out of Jackson Tennessee. He passed in 1963, he was steam engineer, primarily 2-6-0's and Mikados. My maternal Grandfather was freight agent in Springfield Illinios. My Mother and Father met while working for the IC in the late 50's. My Mother was a legal secreatry in the law offices of the IC. My Father began as a surveyor in the B&B dept after graduating for Auburn with a degree in Civil engineering. At his passing in 1983, he was an official in the head offices, Systems Engineer of trains and track. Next step would have been VP/Chief Engineer.

I was employed by the ICG in 1977-78-79-80, summers between HS and College as a section laborer. I worked out of the Homewood Shops and Markham yards areas. I laid most of the #3 line from Blue Island Illinios to Matteson.

I grew up chasing all up and down the IC, between 1960 and 85. Once I graduated from college I never worked for the rail road again, but I still have fond memories. I lived as far south as Mendenhall and Vicksburg Mississippi to as far north as Chicago.

I do model in G scale, outdoor garden railroad. Now that Aristo has begun producing E8's I will model the Panama Limited in early 60's colors. I have great memories of riding the Panama from Durant and Vicksburg Mississippi to Springfield to see my Grandparents on a regular basis.

Looking forward to getting to know everyone.

Dave, Welcome to TrainBoard. Memories of railroading are are always welcome. Tina and I live about a mile north of the IC Chicago to Debuque of the IC. It was Chicago Central & Pacific from 1985 until IC took control again in 1997. We still see spartan cab SD70's but sadley the Paducah Geeps are long gone. I need to find those pictures and post them.

I posted here in October this year regarding having worked for the IC/ICG back in the late 1960s-1970s and being open to any questions particularly operations about the railroad. For some reason my post was deleted. Not sure why. But the offer still stands if you have questions about the railroad in that time period.

Thanks,

Barry

Thanks Boxcab:

I could not understand why it was missing. I guess being down with flu/cold caused me to forget how recent the post was.

Keep up the good work. I really enjoy the site.

I have an IC SD40-2 photo But there's some bad news to go with it 6129 has been repainted into CN black and red. 6070 has an Operation Lifesaver logo like the one in 6008
http://www.trainboard.com/railimages/data/523/Resting_up.jpg

Here is A Half IC/ Half CN Consist. IC 6032 is one of the last two remaining ICG SD40-2 in service. 6031 being converted into 6200 (SD40-3) in 1997 and 6033 destroyed in a collision in Flora, Miss. in 1994
