I'm not really surprised. The BCR was a small regional. Tucked away in the forests. Many people outside of the region, don't even know it once existed. It lasted less than 35 years. Even less, are those who knew of it's predecessor, Pacific Great Eastern.

Well, I know BCR existed! Tucked away in the forests. Many people outside of the region, don't even know it once existed. I thought that was strange, then I realized that my knowledge of railroads is fairly random. I'm more familiar with WP than MP, though the latter was ten times the size.

I'm no expert on BCR, but I loved those 80s photos where red, white and blue diesels mixed with two-tone green. I was never so interested in the time after the C40-8Ms bumped the big MLWs off the roster.

I just found http://www.trainweb.org/rosters/BCOL.html and wondered: why were the M420Bs so prone to being wrecked? 5 of the 8 were wrecked, though they were B units and wouldn't lead.

Interesting question. I have no idea. Was there truly a reason? Or was this merely an oddity?

Sadly.

I thought certainly there'd be a little more interest. Oh well. If Rick was around, maybe that would help?

Sorry to hear that. I had the chance to ride the line from Vancouver to Prince George. (On the Caribou Prospector)

Thought it was a great operation than and still do....

Beautiful scenery. If any rail line should attract tourists, this ought to be one.

BC Rail used to have big Dog Wood Flowers on their box cars. Used to see many of them coming from the north loaded with lumber. I don't know why the Dog Wood was chosen but it was neat. I'm hoping to have one or two on my layout with that emblem on them. BC Rail bought their C425's from the Erie Lackawanna before the start up of Conrail. I wonder if the b units were meant to run with them?

Nice caboose! Well BC Rail is still around, just a lot smaller then it used to be. they still operate the Port Sub. and BNSF trains have to be dispatched over a small part of it on the way to Vancouver BC.
