Welcome to the new fallen flag layout.
We are testing to see how this setup works for our fallen flag forums.
Feel free to offer input. If this does not work, we can easily go back to the old layout.

Charlie, It works for me. All the links work, it's compact but very accessible. :teeth:

I like it. I can easily click on the railroad I want and go right to it from the main page listing yet it does not take up a lot of space.

I prefer it the way it was since I can tell at a glance if there's new posts in the groups I like.

I too like the old way. I can't see any new posts without diggin either into the forums themselves or looking at "new posts" or "24 hrs of Trainboard". With my slow dialup it takes some time to switch between pages.
On the other hand, it is nice and compact.

...yet can still be seen on the Main Page without taking up a ton of page space. I also like the nice "Arrows" next to each Railway that tells you which have new topics and which don't.

I prefer it the old way. Although I only view a few specific railroads on a regular basis, many times a new post in one I don't will catch my eye.
Keep up the good work! NO complaints here.

I'm on dial-up as well and this will help the Main Page load faster and using the above indicators for New / Old Posts you will know which FF Forums have new posts in them. If you also click on the Fallen Flags (http://www.trainboard.com/grapevine/forumdisplay.php?f=160) link it will open a full window like it did under the Old TB software when the FF forums were completely hidden.

Now that I've realized it takes but one click to get the old display, the new one is fine with me.

I like the Fallen Flag Red Arrow feature showing which FF Forum has new posts. When the FF category was re-collapsed, I was worried that I would have to open up the whole schmear just to see if there were any postings on the B&M or NYC. But the bright red arrows allow me to become a Couch Potato again. Ya know, we retirees must be careful not to overly exert ourselves.....

Now that I know about the arrow deal I believe I will change my answer and say that I am comfortable with the new setup if people vote to keep it this way. I still prefer the old way since I can shrink the group if I don't want to look at it.

Just as a note of personal preference, I would like to do this to Today's Railroads and Railfanning also.
Yes, you can collapse categories if you choose, but I do not like to do that, and I also do not like the long scroll.
I would prefer a compact page with lots of information available.
I primarily use the 24 Hours function top monitor site activity (as I did on the old software as well).
Opinions are welcome and this is just an "unoffficial" discussion on the idea. We're always looking to make things better.
No doubt, it does remain easy to see if there is a new post to a forum due to the red arrow. Also, a single click still puts you in that forum. It just basically makes the display smaller.

Would not this be better asked outside of the Fallen Flags since this would effect members that might not see this suggestion here. Not everyone use the "24 Hours function" but only looks at specific forum that they might even have bookmarked.

I agree with Darren. Discussion of the FF format is more of an Administrative function. I have no problem with you moving my FF post, but there was no indication as to where. Further, I did not think to look within the FF sub-Forums for a subject that discussed the Forum as a whole.
Regards the "where", is it possible to add the destination to the "moved" notice?

I'm new here, but I have a question on the "Fallen Flags" catagories. I don't see a catagory for "Central Vermont Railway" or the "Saint Johnsbury & Lamiolle County/Valley Railway"
Can these be added?
Thanks,
Rob

Rob,
This wording applies:
If you do not see a forum for your post, post it in the main forum.
If there is enough interest for those roads, then yes, there could be a forum added.

Charlie,
Nice job, the new format works for me since I spend most of my time in this section anyways. Thanks again!!
