I'm trying to remember an article in Trains(?) Was this the run that handled auto traffic?

Too bad that locos of today look distinctive. But just don't have the classy appearance of the F's, and E units......

The APF was the Auto Parts Forwarder, called at midnight 7 days a week for the San Jose. It had the South Bay manifest and Ford products in the less time sensitive mode. The FF or Ford Fast had the big auto parts box cars and auto racks.

Cool, 488 was WP 2009. It was the only WP GP-20 to get the UP yellow. I had forgotten about that engine getting painted. It was the standard power on the Tidewater Southern for years but after it got the yellow, it didn't hang around much longer. Had WP not merged with the UP, the 20's were in line to get a rebuild like the GP35's and GP40's. Thanks for sharing those two pictures.

Until recently, I didn't know what I had. I don't think I knew back then that these were WP locos. I have a few shots of UP/ WP GP35's in yellow as well.

John thanks for sharing your pictures. The ex-WP GP-35's out lasted the UP's by several years. They were used on locals and switching, but would occasionally make an excursion on the mainline. While the GP-35 wasn't a popular engine with the railroads, I liked them. When MK rebuilt them, they became pretty good engines, IMHO. They still survive today on various short lines, so we are hoping to snag one for the FRRS museum.
