In June 1950 Cotton Belt received one steam-
generator equipped GP-7, SSW 320, which was
later renumbered to SSW 304. This unit was painted in SP Daylight colors.

I have seen a couple of B/W photos of this unit and one color model photo. Does anyone on this forum know of an on-line color prototype photo of this unit, or have a color prototype photo which could be scanned and sent by email?

Thanks in advance

Hmmm...this ones a toughie. I've only seen b/w photos of this unit, and the closest I've found online is a model photo of one in Daylight, at the Espee Modelers Page: http://espee.railfan.net/sswgp07.html Sorry I can't come through with anything else...any other folks out there in SP/SSW land that can come to the rescue with a pic of this unit? There's gotta be color one out there somewhere.... http://www.trainboard.com/smile.gif

I recently bought the Four Ways West "Cotton Belt COlor Pictorial" and it shows a black and white pic of the unit. In the caption it mentions that no known color photos exit of the GP-7 in daylight colors. They included a b&w photo in an all color book because they felt it was interesting unit a piece of Cotton Belt history, but weren't able to locate a photo.

I Have no info on the specific loco you are requesting But do have a book to reccomend for SP and SSW historical locomotive pictures.

Southern Pacifics Blue Streak Merchandise
By Fred W Frailey.

Its a history of the St Louis to Los Angeles Train Service they had.Its 168 pages of great info including Time Schedules, routes and more. Some Great stories of the people that made this such an awesome train.
It also contains at least 1 photo on most every page. Most in Black and white but has a 15 page section in the middle of wonderful color photos. I see no daylight pictures in the book but a few of the Black Widow paint scheme in color. Also Some F units in the red and grey. Even a few of the merger colors.Mostly the red a grey though.Even has a few picture of the steam era trains as well.

Over all a great book for historical data from the trains to the cargo to the people.I checked it out from my local library. Its a hard cover "coffe table" kind of book.It is published by Kalmbach if your interested in purchasing it.
