Ok, this one is for all the SP oddball locomotive fans out there to enjoy, posted on Richard Percy's Espee Modelers Homepage: http://espee.railfan.net/picindex/sd40m-2_walkaround/index.html When I shot it, it was one of the units being used on the West Colton-Anaheim Hauler, and was set out by itself(perfect for all kinds of detail shots http://www.trainboard.com/smile.gif ). As for the unit, it's one of 133 SD40M-2 units rebuilt by Morrison-Knudsen for SP in 1994 from various SD40, SD45, and SDP45 core units. It started out as CNW SD45 #907 before being rebuilt, and what makes this one unique is the radiator section; at the time of the SD40M-2 program, M-K was also building commuter units for MARC, and needed SD45 radiator sections. So they took the "flares" from the SD45, and replaced it with a SD40-style radiator section. The end result is something that looks kinda like an SD45-2. M-K did a total of ten units like this...definitely different, and a great modeling project! Amazing what M-K can do.

Paul,
They are great pictures and show every detail required to build a model. It is obvious the photographer lol has built many accurate models in his time http://www.trainboard.com/biggrin.gif due to so many shots of the one locomotive now if only you could end your model of the tunnel motor to Kato or Atlas so us N scalers could have an accurate model to buy

Thanks for the kind words guys, glad you enjoyed the pics. http://www.trainboard.com/biggrin.gif And heck, I'd love to see a plastic SD45T-2 produced in any scale...if Kato, Atlas, Athearn or whoever was to ask for assistance, I'd jump at the chance! As for the SD40M-2, I was surprised to see it sitting by itself, since they normally leave 2-3 units laying over. I'll admit, the idea of modeling it crept into my head shortly after I started snapping pics...and I've already started lining up the resources to build one. Battle plan is to start with an RPP SD45 shell, and Cannonize it; I'll probably use a modified Athearn GP40-2 radiator section for the rear end. Yet another project that'll gather dust over the next few months. http://www.trainboard.com/wink.gif
