I was browsing through my site and noticed I only need a pic of one more SD40R to complete the set. I've tried to trace this unit but it doesn't show up. I believe it was wrecked and scrapped but really don't know. Can anyone help me with what happened to this unit?
thanks.

From Don Strack's notes, SP 7382 was retired by SP prior to the UP merger.

There is only one photo of the unit on the Espee Modeler's site, and it was taken in 1982 which was fairly soon after it was rebuilt in 1981. Other than that, it is a mystery. According to the site, there were only two SD40R's off the roster in 1996. One was the 7347, and I'm not sure what the other one was so it could have been the 7382...anyway, here is the link to the photo:

Although the SP modeler's site has the unit that has eluded you, they have many more holes in their collection than you do. Keep up the hunt, and as I have time I'll break out the loupe and search the background of my slides for those "ghost engines" like the 7382.

...found another shot of the 7382 on the net, but this shot only proves its existance through 5/85. Here's the photo link:

To the best of my research abilities, that's all that is out there. Hope this helps out a little...

The three units off the SP roster on the merger were 7317, 7347 and 7382.
Darn, I forgot to add the page number of Don's PDF. It is 272.

Well....
After looking through a couple of my Espee roster books, it looks like SP 7382 was wrecked and scrapped on-site at Bon, Arizona on 8/89. The only other SD40R's to be written off the roster by SP appear to be SP 7317, wrecked/scrapped at Cliff, Co. on 9/30/91, and SP 7347, destroyed in a wreck while working for the BN at Westminster, Co. 8/85.
