Here is a photograph of a couple of S.P. locomotives you might recognize. I took the photos, (I have 3 more) in the Sacramento S.P. yards in 1979. Both units were awaiting restoration for the California Railroad Museum and I am probably one of the last persons to see them outside the confines of the museum.

Nice pic Bill, thanks for sharing it. BTW, what all do they have intended for the 4294? Isn't she on display inside the main building? I've always wondered if there was any hope of restoring it to operation...even though it would be tough to find somewhere to run it, the thought of an AC-12 cab forward in operable condition is awesome.

Paul,

I heard rumors some time ago that there was a movement mounted to restore 4294 to operational status. However, I visited the California Railroad Museum a few months ago and asked a curator there about what I had heard. He told me there was a consideration to do so, but at this time there was no money in the state budget to start on it. He said the cost to have the boiler retubed was estimated to be over $200,000. And, of course, that is only one part of a restoration. I am hoping that someone will start a private donation program to help offset some of the expense. smile.gif

Here's another pic for ya guys - enjoy !
