I hope the purists will forgive me, but I wanted a logo and colour scheme for my Model Railroad that would knock off a real one, making my painting jobs easier. Since I live in New Zealand, the South Pacific Lines seemed an appropriate name graemlins/wink.gif

Here's what i came up with

if you are not aware, the fern leaf and the curling "koru" are both New Zealand icons, kinda like the Canadian maple leaf. They also roughly match the sun and the ladder of track on the SP one.

Help me out here. I haven't found many examples of the Southern Pacific marque/flag/logo. The website I found had the artwork in red. I see it in blue when folk use it here. Which is correct?

cheers
Rob

PS for your amusement: my SPl connects with trains operated by Allied Transport and Shipping Ltd (becuase i already had an AT&SF switcher and I covet the new Broadway AT&SF 4-8-4s - they look much like new Zealand's beloved old Ka class locos)

The logo has been used in lots of colours, on 50's boxcars it was black & white, on 80's/90's mech reefers it could be blue, green, red...

The red version as you have modified is probably the best known one though, but i'm not sure there is one correct colour.

EDIT: Oh, nice job on the logo, looks pretty convincing! smile.gif

Here is a SP steam passenger locomotive 2472 that is still operating occasionally between San Francisco and San Jose. The photo was taken about 1992.
