Southern, Central of Georgia, and RF&P fans - most of you probably know already, but Athearn has announced RS-3's in both the "tuxedo" and green schemes; Cof G F-3's and RF&P F-7's.
Good thing a lot of us love grits, 'cause the grocery money gonna be scarce for a while.

Dave. My wife has a t shirt that reads:
GRITS - 'GIRLS RAISED IN THE SOUTH'.
Perhaps, I may need to love her more as the MTH catalog comes out next month.
It is hard for me not to pre-order from the premier section of the catalog.
The Central of Georgia E-8's may be released, if so they are on the purchase list.
This really will be problem should MTH also issure the ACL SD 35's and SAL SDP 35's as I also need three each of them.
That is major money.
Maybe I should apply for a GI load.

Larry - After what happened to us Saturday, I'm even sorrier than I was initially over our failure to get together. Went with BW on a call and to reward ourselves afterward decided on a restaurant meal.
Big mistake, worst restaurant meal I've ever had (and some of the places I've dined had dirt floors).
Well, in re the SD/SDP-35's, you could follow my example when Atlas produced the SDP-35 in SAL, high-hood Southerns, and ACL SD-35's -
which is most important? And this when I was still employed.
Well the SDP-35's are in hand, I regret not getting the other models. As someone on this board said earlier - "plastic candy."

Harold: Reading your post reminded me that Atlas did in fact produce SD/SDP-35's in O scale
I believe before they did the N scale units - Larry - did you know this?
If memory serves, about 2000/2001 in both scale and hi-rail.

As a matter of fact if you look at page 47 of the January 2001 issue of "Model Railroader" you'll see the announcement for the SDP-35 in O scale.

QUOTE from Dave- .... Larry - did you know this?
Yes. I have a lot of Atlas rolling stock, however for reasons of compatability and DCS I utilize MTH Primier engines for power.
Yes. I really like Atlas engines, however since they have Lionel's TMCC I pass them up.
I normally operate my MTH Southern SD-24's in a lash up of three units (three different road #'s) and they really operate together great.
These are some very sharp units. Each has two motors with all the bells and whistles.

Larry C. - O.K., you just threw a little Greek at me. I take it that the control systems for MTH are not compatible with Atlas/Lionel?
I've passed up Southern 6-motor power with the rationale that Southern did not, during the period I've restricted myself to, run 6-motor units in this area.
In HO, it was extremely hard for me to pass on Atlas's high hood SD-35's, but you have to draw a line somewhere. Same for ACL SD-35's, since the ACL/SOU line on my layout is going to be a light-railed branch, main line power like SD-35's would probably be rare.

Dave, MTH DCS will operate any TMCC units.
however, the signals are routed to the engines via different routes.
MTH normally issues three road#'s in the Primier Line for Geeps, SD's, etc . I purchase one of each powered unit and this makes a big dent in the SCRS's money account
For money reasons alone, it makes since (for me) to have a sole mfg. source for the locomotives.
SCRS is not really a time period bridge line, so any period diesel locomotive with SAL, ACL SOU could operate over it.

I wish they had done SDP35's in N Scale. I thought the O Scalers got them. :(
I don't need them that bad, otherwise I'd try and kitbash them. I do have SD35's in SCL as well as some custom painted (Kato) SD45's.

Yes, I've seen the prices on the O scale units and thankfully I don't have the space to do what I want to do. Right now, even with an area of 10'x12' it is really hard to work in any sense of mainline in HO. I take it for granted you've got the room.
In my case, a too small staging area will feed an approximately 1/3 mile stretch of SAL mainline on which I hope to duplicate the "dogs breakfast" consists of SAL during the early 1960's. In my case 3 or 4 units hauling way too short trains over that third of a mile with four sidings; a packing shed, a box/barrel making industry, seperated from another switching area with a team track and interchange track to a jointly owned ACL/SOU branchline.
I think we all agree, even though we model in 3 different scales, that the manufacturers have really begun to cover our favorite roads the past 10 years. I never would have thought (as an example) that we'd ever have two different procucers of an RSC-2! And in Seaboard, no less!
