I always wonder, what there is a need for a high nose, because it sure blocks the view.

I've alway been curious about something- Note on 2740, the subsidiary company initials. How did they actually go about assigning these unit numbers? I've doubts that each company, CNO&TP, AGS, CGA, etc., really had it's own roster. This is probably an accounting thing. In reality, didn't these engines freely roam systemwide?

Talk about poor visibilty! :D They ordered high short hoods since visiblity was not an issue graemlins/wink.gif Also, they were supposed to provide better protection in the event of a crash.

Boxcab E50 The sublettering you see is for the subsidiaries of Southern.... yes, it was somewhat of an accounting concern.

But did each subsidiary company have a legitimate roster of motive power? Or were these groups of engines essentially sublettered in near random batches?

stan, i see you are from anniston. i once did some work in the CHEMICAL LIMITED AREA at the army depot there. now that would be interesting to model.
do you know if southern worked the depot at any time? i am sure some weapons traveled by rail during and after WWI.
nasty stuff they have had stored there for nearly a hundred years.

While I have my favorite companies, up north and west, I am interested in most all north American RR companies. So wander through here as well.
I wish there was more info on the subsidiary companies. And how they were associated. (Controlled, operated, merged, absorbed.) Surely someone has done a comprehensive history of the company? That has definitive info? Including dates- month, day, year?

David, I'm not sure if Southern worked the depot, but I will try to check into it. [ I bet they did !] They built a incinerator out there and have been burning the chemical weapons for about two years now. They said it could take 7 to 10 years to get them gone. I live about 2 miles from the incinerator. I really don't think about it being there.
